I don't know how difficult this is but it would be super if it could be done.

There are an increasing number of plugins being developed for the Community Builder suite. I have currently submitted one to be included in the extensions site. It would be nice if a new extension type is allowed - maybe called CB Plugin.

Hopefully this could be easily implemented thus enabling the CB 3PD to list their contributions on the site.

Thanks for your suggestion, nant.

Other extensions have these component specific plugins, and we might consider if theres a clever way to organize these plugins.
Don´t think that another extension type would be the solution, cause that would soon become crowded and unclear then (CB plugin, JCE plugin, etc..)
Some kind of subcategory might be a solution. Let us discuss this within the editorial team  :)

How about "Component Specific Plugin"?

Thanks for considering and discussing ...

The Community Builder website is the correct place to list compatibility for this, not the official Joomla! Extensions Directory. So far, it seems they are doing a good job of listing their plugins (look in the "(OLD) CB 1.0 RC2" category):

This is true.
There are also alot of different sites (even the forge) that have Joomla extanesions but Jooma! Extensions Directory was created to provide a global repository-directory. I just thought that a new category would really help to make this directory complete.

CB is obviously a very powerful extension that greatly expands the capabilities of Joomla. It is still not an official piece of Joomla and therefor will not be used in the Extensions directory in this way. We rely on the 3PD community to create these type of directories as they are likely to provide multiple means for support and downloads similar to how your team is doing at the joomlapolis.com site. We are helping to develop tools for 3PDs websites such as a feature comparison chart extension to help you serve your customer base. Thanks for being involved with a powerful suite of extensions for Joomla!

I disagree,
it is still a plugin, it is installable, it is much more adequate to be in the directory, compared to the "Tool".

The new type component plugin is a good idea, if IT IS installable through the component it serves to.

Example for such plugins would be the content element files for Joom!Fish, when the function to be installed through the component is applicable.

There is no sense to exlude those from the extensions directory.

Hi ivo.apostolov,

These plugins will off-course be included in the Extensions Directory if they are submitted by the developer.

But we will not create a special extension type icon, like 'CB plugin' or 'JCE plugin'.
They are plugins, and will be listed as plugins  :)

1. Not list them as plugin, as it is confusing
2. Don't create new types like CB plugin, JCE plugin, Joom!Fish plugin, create a type PLUGIN FOR COMPONENT

These input will surely be evaluated and considered for future improvements of the Extensions Directory.
No promises attached  ;)

Looked for a definition of 'plugin' on the help site glossary. Couldn't find one. I found a definition for 'mambot' which I believe is/was the previous term used that has been renamed to 'plugin'. The 'mambot' definition listed on the joomla! help site states:

Mambot: A Mambot is a small, task-oriented function that intercepts content before it is displayed and manipulates it in some way. Joomla! provides a number of Mambots in the core distribution, e.g. WYSIWYG editors, 3rd party component and module searchers, etc.

Based on this definition the XML files used for JoomlaFish translations, or the CB Plugins (or other component or module specific extensions) do not belong in the 'plugin-mambot' category. Since the extension site accepts these submissions it should have a category that better suites them. I agree that it is not correct to go overboard with new categories and I am not expecting categories like 'CB Plugin' or 'JoomlaFish plugin' but a more generic 'Component Plugin' is logical and would serve the community.

I actually rewrote this post several times while boucing back and fore between agreeing and disagreeing with nant.

Seeing as the Extensions server was set up to be the main repository for Joomla's extensions I think that the focus here should be to continue categorising the extensions in a way that's useful to the casual visitor, rather than somebody who's familiar with the community and knows where to get things.

I am going to post in favour of creating an Extensions Category: Component Specific Extensions -> Community Builder. I've just had a look at the link gsbe posted and they seem well in control there, however, it's worth remembering that the Extensions server's best role is to demonstrate to the new user just what is actually available for Joomla! and other components may not be so well organised.

Can I just ask that the Extension Server's mods consider it?

Cheers.

(before anybody suggests it, I'm quite happy keeping the jomres mini-components on the jomres site TYVM.)

I know everyone is doing this for free (been there ... and still am actually) so in case this has slipped through the cracks I would like some feedback.

Thank you.

Hi nant,

Thanks for the reminder. We better have a small Editor chit-chat again then  8)
You below arguments are surely valid and deserve a second opinion

We have made available a new category called 'Extension Specific Plugins' in JED:

http://extensions.joomla.org/component/ ... Itemid,35/

At the moment, only CB Plugins are accepted. I'm still waiting from the developer of JCE (Ryan) and see if they would like to have one there.

To Lee, ot2sen, and the rest of the team .. thank you for your efforts and understanding.
I will be updating the extensions site with half a dozen CB related pplugins by the end of this week - thus encouraging others to follow through!

Also sent Lee some viewing problems I am experiencing from my end.

A happy person ...

:) Many Thanks, cool ! 8)

Looking forward also to see more extensions with an extensions' plugin architecture to allow changing/extending them without hacks  :P

This new category and possibility for sub-categories at Joomla! Extensions Directory is awesome, as JED also is :)
