B2evolution Vs WordPress ---- A discussion

Post by bluesaze » Sat Sep 10, 2005 8:44 am

People may Choose to differ....... Please let me know If I am wrong ........

I not here to promote Wordpress

I had posted a request for more support for blogging in the wish list in Joomla..... A lot of people had suggested that I was better off with using a external blogging tool........ so after a look here and there and a bit of research ..... I narrowed it down to two blogging tools...... Wordpress and b2evolution .......then I did some more googling at the end of which  I felt wordpress is better than B2evolution.
Reasons are given below

I noticed was B2evolution has a huge XHTML button on the bottom of the page and claim on their main page
"Web standards compliance.
There's even an integrated XHTML checker to help you post valid content."
read more here ......
http://b2evolution.net/news/2003/07/12/p309

Well I tried validating their frontpage and a few other pages It was full of errors

the WordPress guys don't even have a XHTML validating Icon on their page and all their pages validate And the best part is they validate as XhtmL 1.1 ....

OK I am not trying to say being XHTML is everthing just because their pages validate ........ I am talking about the ethics and the quality of works if you look at the chart comparison between wordpress and B2evolution in the references given below you will see that in terms of features they are almost equal.

(linked her from your reply in the other topic)

- Not sure how to respond but want to....

If you are looking to create a blog (you as in, general you, everyone) a couple of things, I would like you to think about it.

Do you want to keep it on a site that is yours, that you manage and control and can add your own things (prehaps photos, and videos all stored in the same place).
Do you want it all to be done for you, and just want to type out your thoughts.
Do you want people you know to comment? Do you just want comments? Do you not want comments?
Can you back it up, if it something imporant or becomes, can you preserve the information in more than once place?

So, what am i trying to point your thinking in to.

Online Diarys/jounral that are already hosted and all you have to do is sign up and write are good in some ways. Generally, this lets you get down your thoguhts and not have to worry about anything, if in the a large community site, there will be hundreds, thousands of other people who keep there own diary and often go around randomly leaving comments and thoughts.  (If you like comments and enjoy peoples feedback, prehaps this is what you need to do).

I myself, wanted more control, I wanted to add photos, videos, anything I wanted, and i wanted to be able to back it up fully (some online blog sites, dont really offer this).  I myself enjoy feedback and comments, but it wasn't that important to me.

Anyway, I'm stop harassing your threads and posts bluesaze.

thanks for the great feed back ......
actually I am more of a perfectionist .......
originally I started out searching for the best CMS .... If you noticed I am one who started the thread DRUpal VS Mambo ..... next I also wanted a very good blog for myself ..... so again i did some looking around ..... now that I have settled for Joomla and Wordpress

I plan to intergrate both of them ......I wanted a site with a subdomain i.e blog.mywebsite.com. So when i write some important Articles I wanted it to be updated in the main site

... I waiting to see if someone disagrees with Wordpress being the best blog tool meanwhile ..... still experimenting ......

I don't maintain a blog myself but in the vast majority of discussions I ever read on the subject Wordpress is almost always mentioned as the hands down best tool available.

Horses for courses, and all that - it depends on what you need any particular application to do.
For me, I prefer b2evolution over wordpress, but that is because I use the features.
Multi-lingual, multi-user blog is important to me, but not to everyone.  I am, however, intrigued by the comment that is is not compliant.
Mine is, and I am a stickler for compliancy with all my sites aiming to meet WAI AAA and XHTML 1.0 strict, if not 1.1.

I do wish to point out that the b2evo news site is not the b2evo blog software and is in the process of being redesigned, so I would not judge a program based on what a site looks like and would suggest that anyone wanting to compare any software actually looks at the software itself.

Yeah, you hear about WordPress more than b2Evo, but I think that comes down to a few reasons...  First, the B2Evo guys aren't doing a heck of a lot of marketing their products the way Wordpress guys are.

Then, Wordpress is getting more coverage because they have more security issues that come up, so more people are talking about it.  So when people talk about blogging, they remember Wordpress.

Granted, wordpress is not a bad product.  And the community is arguably bigger at wordpress, but I feel the product is better with B2Evo.

As Elpie points out, you really have to test drive the actual product before you can make a judgement either way.

I initially chose b2, because of multi-blog capability, but then I found that WordPress MU has multiblog, multi-user capability, so now I am using WordPressMU.
It is a heck of a lot easier than b2 to set up, not messing with stub files, etc.
Also the image handling of WP is superior. Image uploading, image library, image resizing and thumbnails, and the WYSIWYG editor are light years ahead of b2. Maybe b2 is better at some things, though I am not aware, for me WP is way better.
