Hello Nic,

Congratulations on your new post!
I am looking forward to learning a lot more about the accessibility enhancements that a site could add to make it more widely useful.
All the best!  :)

Congratulations Nic and to the Team congratulations also!

Accessibility is very important for a lot of people ...
Usability is important for everybody ... and this is my favourite topic also  ;)

I'm very glad that Team combined Accessibility and Usability and transfered this topic to your hands.

Thanks everyone.  It's good to feel welcomed :)

This is not something I'm gonna do alone though.  Without the dev guys recognising the need, it wouldn't happen.  Without the fools (;))err...  generous volunteers that agreed to come on the Usability & Accessibility work group, it wouldn't happen.  Without the community clammoring for it to happen, it wouldn't happen :)

Not exactly a surprise anymore after your sig has been saying 'Core Member' for a few days now, but congratulations. Success with implementing the standards you already proposed in the Mambo forums.

Wow, I really have to check the forums and the joomla! site more often ;)

Congrats Nic, sounds like you're in a very good position to be handling this vital core role. Accessibility is a huge issue and one that someone with your background is sure to create a solid focus on it in the core.

Good stuff :)

Welcome Nic!

This is indeed good news for Joomla!

As a deaf webmaster, accessibility is a major issue for me.

Looking forward to having Joomla offering built-in section 508 compatibility, plus other accessibility standards.

I'll just jump in here and congratulate along with all the other people that do not know you but still have no trouble being happy about accessibility and usability being put on the roadmap.

Does this relate in any way to the "Accessible Mambo" fork? I do not know who is developing that fork, but it could be interesting to have people join forces instead of working on separate fronts doing all the work twice.

Not really, no.  We're not trying to reinvent the wheel, but the infrastructure of how the output is generated is changing significantly (using patTemplate).  We've asked a fw people on the U&A work group that have done a lot of work towards standard compliant sites (Absalom, Aurum3 and a.radtke for example).  With their experience, we'll be able to "kick it into shape" rather well :)

@Ivo, sorry I don't speak flemmish.  My dad grew up in the French part of Belgium, and while he speaks flemmish, it was never taught to me.
