Would like to provide OSM with Indian languages [16] starting with Hindi. There are more than 500 million people who use the language in India, broadband has just started penetrating, the upside is excellent and OSI is the way forward as incomes are very low.

Maybe a Indian Language Board could be setup?
Would like to moderate and garner support for the same.

I hope "Japanese  forum" will be made in international zone ,too.
If Japanese is displayed normally, I will also want to do so.

Test : 日本語

Yeah ! It can  display beautifully to me with Japanese Language. ;)

Thank you for your offer, Mediawizard.

We normally have already an Hindi Language Coordinator (Vishal Pahuja) and are waiting for him to get here.
Whatever, he will need some help as I think he is alone for the moment.
I'll put you two in contact as soon as he has shown.

Concerning forum , it is another matter. We never had any request for that and I wonder if it is really necessary at this stage as most Indian people on IT are fluent English speakers.

I suggest you create a thread in this Language Forum to ask the Community.

If your call is followed, we'll create one.

regards

Well you wont find many hindi speaking people at these or the other forums. i thought the idea of adding languages was primarily to increase the existing userbase. English is the primary language of a large part of the computer literate set, by no means for all. But for NGOs and like, local language sites for dispersing local information might have more relevance. So we are looking at in terms of a benefit for the ultimate end-user as well as this community.

No probs, will put it to the community [open a new thread] and if there is no support we could do this locally.

Would be happy to work with Vishal for Hindi. Any start is a good one.
We have access to professional English to Hindi translators and this might speed up non-technical terms' translation.

You should read more, alamgir. I gave you the links to the whole story.
We are here in the Free World, away from very unclear intentions of a self-made Foundation from which all Core developpers are absent.
Here is the real $ambo —soon under a new name—, all the Core, docs, mods, translation and the Community at large getting in as they learn about it.
Take good car of the Bengali Forum! Read the rules of the Forum.
Thanks.

Forum in international zone in catalan language, please

Post by blues » Sat Aug 20, 2005 10:33 pm

I solicit to whom it corresponds, if it is possible that a forum is opened in the international zone to debate subjects in Catalan language... I myself would be arranged to moderate it.
