I was wondering tonight why the codename so as usual i kicked up google and found this

-------------
Khepri
'He Who is Coming into Being'

Appearance:

    * Man with the head of a scarab
    * A scarab beetle

Khepri was a god of creation, the movement of the sun, and rebirth.

The scarab beetle lays its eggs in a ball of dung. Then, it rolls the ball along the ground until the young beetles are ready to hatch.

When the young beetles are ready, they crawl out of the ball.

The ancient Egyptians believed that the beetles just appeared from nowhere- as they believed that their creator god had appeared from nowhere. Thus, they thought that the scarab beetle was special.

In certain creation stories, Khepri is connected with the god Atum. He is also connected with the sun god Ra who pushed the sun through the sky every day.

And I was beginning to think sun-orientated codenames had been dropped, seems I was wrong.

Does seem appropiate, and very interesting codename (well done to who ever came up with it).

Thank you *bow* ... We have bounced around lots of ideas and are still bouncing ideas around I think.  I wouldn't consider khepri an absolutely final decision as of yet, but as brian stated, I consider it a very appropriate start.  If we in fact continue down that path, it is not necessarily a sun theme but an egyptian god theme I believe.

Hi,

yeah, I also like this codename.
When I was looking up all the previous codenames of 1.0.x a few weeks ago, and then checked for Khepri in Wikipedia about it's meaning I though it's also a good "bridge" to whatever follows. Seems like I wasn't on the wrong track:

well, that'd give you plenty of great names for a gazillion releases in the next decades :D :D

I'm hoping to change the name group again when we start on the 2.0 release cycle...

The name has a nice, mysterious sound to it and it has all the letters of my name in it!!! Hmm... Must be the reason why I am so excited about the 1.5 release of Joomla. You are doing a great job here guys!
The usability is up at least a notch and a lot of the new features have me impressed. Joomla is not only going in the right direction, it is leaving all its competitors waaay behind!

Joomla! 1.5, something that is born out of dung, is this a sneer at Mamb*  :P
Seriously, why would you want to relate Joomla! to manure? I  :-* Joomla! to much for that.

That's a dung-good name. Let us hope no one steps in it during its development stage, and let us also hope that upon the birt of its siblings we do not see a myriad of forks (offspring) that dilute the core of its existance. Again, good name.

surely a moon theme would be a logical step from a sun theme?

Actually, we could try using names of capital cities... He he!!

Version 1.5.1 New York, 1.5.6 Athens etc.  ;)

I like the idea of webamoebe, but I would use the planets, as the moon isn't one and the sun is, and we would have more name, or let's use star names, a lot of them out there, so plenty to choose

well, sorry for being picky, but the Sun is not a planet; it's a star. The big blue marble you live on is called a planet.

I guess I own solar system may run out of planet names if 1.5 will have as many releases as 1.0 ;) so using the ancient (roman, greek, arabic) star names would certainly provide some choices.
For a starter: Sirrah, Alpheratz, Mirach, Alamak, Sadalmelek, Atair, Hamal, Kapella, Alhajoth, Menkalinan, Arktur (Arkturus), Acubens, Sertan, Sirius, Canicula, Mirzam, Wezen, Adhara, Prkyon, Elgomaisa, Al Giedi, Canopus, Schedar, Alderamin, Menkar, Mekab, Deneb Kaitos, Mira, Gemma, Alphecca, Deneb, Sadr, Thuban, Ettanin, Achernar, Castor, Pollux, Alhena, Ras Algehti, Regulus, Denebola, Algieba, Arneb, Zuben el Dschenubi, Wega, Ras Alhague, Beteigeuze, Rigel, Bellatrix, Mintaka, Alnilam, Alnitak, Saiph, Markab, Algenib, Algol, Al Rischa, Kaitain, Formalhaut, Nash, Nunki, Antares, Vespertilio, Aldebaran, Nath, Dhube, Alioth, Mizar, Benetnasch, Polaris, Kynosura, Kochab, Spika, Azimech.

I personally like to see an egyptian theme.

Have fun,
Cirtap

It appears the new 1.5-x codenames are simply the numbers 1-n in the "Taracahitic" language, which is an Aztecan dialect :)
Here's the full list: http://docs.joomla.org/Joomla!_Codenames
