Q: What is JSAS?
A:JSAS is a Windows application that installs Joomla, Apache, Php, and Mysql and phpMyAdmin.

A: As a local development server environment, or simple to check out mambo quickly and easily without having to have a web host or configure all the server applications. - a couple clicks and Mambo is up and running on your PC.

Mac Users:
we dont have an MSAS version for Mac (yet). Instead I suggest trying MAMP

This is probably more of a networking question, but I will ask it nonetheless since you are all so fabulous and wise...   ;)

I am using MSAS on my local computer, and have installed SMF using the MOS_SMF bridge to allow for single login for the site and for the forum.  This is all on my testing site.  When testing a new user registration, I get a failure saying that it is unable to send the email validation out...  considering that I do not have a mail client on my local server, is this to be expected?  Can I change a setting to fix this while running in the test environment using MSAS?

I am loving the SMF, and would like to install it on my live site - but cannot tell if what I am experiencing is a limitation due to the testing server not being a mail server, or if I am actually experiencing an error that I am unable to understand.  (newbie here!)

The only other odd thing is that when I do attempt to register a user from the mambo front page login (which is now part of the bridge, I get that error and then the browser pops over to the forum.  In reality I would prefer to have a user register at the site's home page, and stay there until they choose to enter the forum.  Again, not sure if this is something that can be changed, or is a result of this error.  Everything else seems to be in order as far as functionality goes on both the front and back end of the SMF and mambo.

i have never used SMF, but i can its normal that you getting an email error while using MSAS, because there is no mailserver integrated.

There is no reason we can think of that it would be incompatible with Mambo, because it (the webserver) can run both.  We will have aninitial  JSAS release ready to coincide with the initial release of Joomla.

I have been trying to download msas 4.5.2 from mamboforge but it isn't found anymore. When is the JSAS coming out?

Can I use MSAS to generate & store site updates when I have no internet access?

I'd like to be able to "mirror" my internet ***bo site on MSAS so that while I'm trekking through the jungle a week at a time I can write articles and add other content to the site on MSAS, then when I return to civilization use the content stored in MSAS to update the internet site.

Is this a reasonable thing to attempt?

well, it is notpurposed for that directly, but one way you could do it is try as follows:

note: you  need phpmmyadmin acccess on your server.

1) create your content offline on JSAS / MSAS
2) when you want to sync from local to remote, use the built in phpmyadmin in JSAS to export all your structure & data, save as a .sql
3) login in to your remote hosted phpmyadmin, and do the same procedure ( create a BACKUP) .sql data dump
4) i suggest create a folder named 'mySiteDataBackup' or similar, and do a full data backup each time beofre attempting the local to remote sync
5) login to your remote, select all the tables in the joomla/mambo db, and delete all structre and data, leaving empty database
6) then upload your local .sql file that has your new data ( you also saved it with structure (( tables)) )
7) finally, upload via FTP your images/stories or wherever you upload your conetnt images too, overwrite the old images

that should work, although please BACKUP before trying

maybe somebody else has a better idea...

I'll (backup) poke around a little and see how it goes.  I've vaporized the whole site more than once already, and I'm prepared to do it again.

You might want to change the Mac link to http://www.mamp.info/.

This way you'll get a portal to choose your language instead of just defaulting to German per the original URL:

FWIW, I owe mambosolutions a LOT for having shown me the joy of local development through MSAS   I recommend it to anyone who's wanting a play with Joomla locally.

I don't use primarly MSAS to develop locally anymore, as I found it a little too constrictive to run several sites at the same time, and then run non mambo/joomla applications on top of it.  It's possible, just felt a tad clumsy.  I now use XAMPP for that.

However, MSAS is *very* handy loaded on a USB memory stick.  Go to client.  Stick memory stick in USB port, present to client.  9 times out of 10, they are just blown out of the water.  And it's a good thing

XAMPP looks very interesting. As a developer of several sites you can never have too many tools in your toolbox.

we are woring right now actuall yon JSAS 1.0, and may have a new feature that let you easily manage multiple sites / applications

and yes, its hard to beat MSAS on a USB stick for dazzling a client

Does this mean that the new JSAS will have the aility to develop different sites locally, then have the option to synchronise selected sites on to the live production server? If so, will there be the capability to synchronise both ways?  ie. if I already have a joomla powered site I am working on which is on a remote server, I could get JSAS to synchronise with it and duplicate it my my local JSAS installation, work on it, then sync' it back to the production server once I'm done with it?

Should their be a policy, perhaps, ( only thinking out loud here) that all FAQ's should be locked and only the FAQ author can post replies? and then there be a FAQ discussion elsewhere in the FAQ forum?

Hi there - been using Mambo for about 4 months, but thinking of converting over to Joomla. Interested in seeing\using JSAS. Once it's release where will I be able to find out details on it, and download it? Taking me a while to find my way round the new Joomla pages, so be gentle with me please

I will make an announcment when we release JSAS, and I will also pist in this thread, so if you are subscribed, you will get an email that a reply has been made to this thread.

also, for anybody that wants to try:

its real easy to run Joomla in the current MSAS.

just rename the current folder ' mambo452' to something like ' mambo452_bak'

next, create a new folder bnamed 'mambo452', and copy all the joomla files here, then start MSAS in your browser( localhost) and install Joomla.

for database details use

host: localhost:85
database username: root
password( blank)

thats it

then make sure to remove the installation directory and restart MSAS






should have a nice new Joomla running in MSAS then

Thanks for the reply, much appreciated. I've not mucked around with MSAS in any way yet, so think if JSAS is coming soon that I'll just wait. Love the thought that I can run and develope my new Joomla site(s) on my USB pen. I've got a 20Gb one, so looking forward to mucho fun 

Must have a crack at making my own template as well. I just used one of the standard ones for the main site I've done so far

But I'm a qualified Dreamweaver MX developer, so must get the add-on for that, and have a go. Plenty of dark winter nights coming soon, so I'll hopefully get some time on my hands to experiment. My better half wants me to do her a e-shopping site for her glass engraving business, so that one looks as if it may be first on the list.

It could be localhost with MSAS 4.5.1 ... but that didn't work for me with MSAS 4.5.2. I had to then go into the configuation.php can change localhost to localhost:85. That was a pita to find. I was thinking the installaton wan't working until it hit.
