Re: Font selection
I use the font that comes with Microsoft IME (Mangal). To be honest I am not sure how font selection would affect this translation that it needs that much attention?May be I am missing something. I agree with alamgirs post somewhere that font is not a big issue.mediawizard wrote:

I believe any font that is utf-8 encoded should be fine. So, fonts like susha, surekh, agra are out of question. I know Mangal is utf-8 encoded so want to propose this font.
I will recommend that we all use Microsoft IME if you do not have any other favourites. Again, I think this should not be an issue at the entire translation level. You might have some preference which is fine.mediawizard wrote:

I am planning to setup online project management thingy soon. I will keep you all updated on that...mediawizard wrote: 3. We need to allot work / person - Vish, take a call pls
Keep it going...
@mediawizard: Do you have any graphic designers available?I would like some work to be done to the new Joomla! logo to give it some "Desi" touch....I believe we will get psd of the final logo that we can use. We will also get some "Official Partner Logo" I blelieve.

Re: Font selection
1.
I suggested this so that we can all get on the same page. Mangal is fine with me.
Ditto for the keyboard.
Could you pls post the link here, ms site has only a few far eastern ones listed for XP.
2.
I am myself a designer, what did you have in mind in terms of 'desi'?
Here everything is desi
How abt making the logo the flame of a diya? Diwali is coming up too, we could always change it...

Re: Font selection
Desi is a term used in USA a lot for South Asian Flare....So India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and so on comes under Desi umbrella.
Diya is a good thought but I would like it to be religion/nation independent or any specific culture independent. It should be for all. All should be able to relate to it and not able to isolate from it.
I was thinking in terms of colors/style...but may be I am asking too much....
You did not say anything about the font and others points?

Re: Font selection
I Propose SAAB font for Punjabi as it is UTF-8 , Unicode 4.0 compliant and best font for Punjabi AND Gurmukhi display on screen and in Print.
Wondering if you guys saw my post: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,7764.0.html
I Second the Idea of the Logo being religion and nation independent.

Re: Font selection
A diya or a small lamp is as indic as it gets. No religion or nation can claim sole use, in fact evey religion and nation would probably identify with it.
Gursikh - the golden temple is surrounded by little diyas during festivities too.
If you have any other ideas, let them hang out.

Re: Font selection
I was just saying it should be independent, I'm completely down with some sort of "artsy" diya flame logo, I'm no artist but I'll see if I can't pull something together.
I might be offline very soon for a while seeing how this Hurricane Rita is coming right at me.

Re: Font selection
Well, infograf did not approve of any of two logos...
The following is not met in the logo
Quote from Guide:
"Never combine the symbol with any other text or logo. For use as an graphic element or imagery, it must stand alone.
Never use the symbol, as a graphic element or imagery, alone on any communication materials without the full Joomla! logo used in the same context."
I have seen other language partner sites and they just add something after the joomla logo, may be thats what we need to do.
