You can download the manual from http://help.joomla.org/ or http://www.joomlausermanual.com

i already download it from those site, and finish with chapter 1. so it means i can translate it as long as i'm not removing any copyright and acknowledgement section isn't it?

btw, thanks for replying.

That would appear to be so.  Although there seems to be some further discussions on what the Creative Common Licence allows or prohibits you from doing.

I would keep a look out for any further word on this just in case.

Sorry to be awkward.

Looking at the basic view of the creative commons lic. used for the manual(http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/2.5/) states:
Quote:
You are free:

    * to copy, distribute, display, and perform the work
    * to make derivative works

Moving over to the drawn out legal text(http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by- ... /legalcode):

Quote:
"Derivative Work" means a work based upon the Work or upon the Work and other pre-existing works, such as a translation, musical arrangement, dramatization, fictionalization, motion picture version, sound recording, art reproduction, abridgment, condensation, or any other form in which the Work may be recast, transformed, or adapted, except that a work that constitutes a Collective Work will not be considered a Derivative Work for the purpose of this License. For the avoidance of doubt, where the Work is a musical composition or sound recording, the synchronization of the Work in timed-relation with a moving image ("synching") will be considered a Derivative Work for the purpose of this License.

So, the answer is yes... You can translate it. You also will need to watch out for a few other things. I'd read the entire legal code so you know what you are getting into by translating it.

For all interested,

About the noncommercial clause:

http://www.adamfields.com/CC-NC-allowed ... wchart.pdf
http://wiki.creativecommons.org/Discuss ... Guidelines
A quick example: you can give a Joomla! copy to your customers but you can´t give them the official documentation (or a derivative work). You are not allowed to reproduce the official documentation (or a derivative work) on your website if you have adds.

About the attribution: you must name the author(s) of the original and the derivative works, all the authors if the authorship is not given to an entity, in the way specified by the author(s) or in a proper way.

About the sharealike clause: the same terms are applicable to every copy and distribution of the original and derivative works.

About mixing content: this license is incompatible with other licenses.

ibnhafsun,

We are studying many of the points you have discussed.  That is why we have not reponded.

Thanks, Michelle. I am doing the same!

I have some flowcharts and a quick and simple presentation (no corner cases) but I need some time as I want to:

a) be as objective as I can be
b) find different solutions to see the pros and cons
c) get legal advice from independant sources

It was not my intention with this post to state the same worries again. I was just trying to show how things work.

PS: d) let you do the same ;)
