Hi,
in the past I have used Statcounter.com as a good and comprehensive recorder of my site traffic - but I have just set up some sites with Joomla installs and I am unsure if something like Statcounter would be able to accurately record visits in the same way on a Joomla site as it would on an html site.

Can anyone help me here?

If Statcounter is ok and approprate then how do I input the code - what is the best method? Where do I put it?

If there is a better or more appropraite method for collecting stats for a Joomla site then I'd be pleased to hear of it.

Thanks for reading.

I use Statcounter on all my Joomla sites, it works like a charm.

I like to add the Statcounter code after my last
and before . A note, if you want XHTML compliant code you will need to edit the code that Statcounter gives you, replacing ampersands '&' with '&' in the URL.

Hi Frank,
thanks for posting - but where in your Joomla install do you put that code? Do you put int in the actual template, or in the content items?

Thanks.

Thanks again, Frank,
and putting it there means statcounter is still able to tell which specific pages are being accessed? I guess that ws my worry about putting it on Joomla because the pages aren't static I wasn't sure if Statcounter would be able to tell which page was being visited.

Add away, it works like a charm. I do have openSEF on nearly all sites, which makes it easier to tell page from page in Statcounter.

I always put the counter in a module, that makes it Template and Joomla Update indepenend.

First Login to your admin panel.
Disable the Wysiwyg editor for now. (sometimes you need to do this an a user level as wel.)
Go to the module menu and create an new one.
Name it like Statcounter or something you can remember.
Tick the don't show Title if you dont want to show it.

Set the placement on your menu left or right and publish to on.
Now copy your statcounter code into the module Content pane.

save the module and look if it shows up in your site.

Best part of this solution is that it also works with a hidden counter, just make sure the modul is published.

You are now Template indepented, so if you chance your template the counter still works without modicactions.

Now you can enable the Wysywig editor again.
If you need to alter or insert new code, make sure you are editing without the Wysysiwig editor.

Explanation with screen schots..
