Hi everyone, this is my first post here.
I am a newbie in the Joomla field, but i have fiddled around with it a little and i think i have grasped the main points.
I am interested in making a website with Joomla which will be sort of a touristic guide. The user will be able to browse and search through 4 main sections (accomodation, food and drink, shopping, sightseeing).
Id like to further categorize this sections by area, category etc, etc....

Is this possible to be done with Joomla?(i guess yes..) and should i need some component for this kind of thing..if yes which could be the most appropriate (i have yet tried Sigsiu Online Business Index)....

Thats about it.....Thanks!

Try searching through the site showcase forum for sites with similar focus.

Hi

I see a top tabbed menu with your sections, and then a sidemenu of content for each section.

That is easily done.

Your real need is to define the functionality for each section, and then find the matching extension.

Post again if you need more help with that.

Regards
Brendon

First of all thanks for your replies.

i followed your instructions and I think i found something pretty close to what i want to do.
It is here: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,178032.0.html

As for the structure, I think i want to have my main categories (like accomodation, food&drink etc) on the top menu, and on the left maybe some subcategories, or display some "highlights" from each category...

Is Mosets Directory suitable for what i want to do? Anything similar?

Thanks!

hey,

you don't need any kind of addons to achieve this, here are the steps in brief:

#1- at you "mainmenu", create your main categories, this iwll be ur top menu.

#2- for every item at ur mainmenu, create anew menu and add to it all subcategories you need

#3- at the modules page, just manage which menus to show at which pages

Thats easy and basic, if u dont know how to do this then I dont suggest at all you go use any addon and spend sometime with it and may be pay some $$$ too!!!

First try and APPLY this, later u see if it fits you or not, by this later u know how things going too ;)

Cheers

Max

thanks for your suggestion. It seems pretty simple and straightforward solution.
Tbh this was my first thought and approach for the problem, but my thought is how could i implement a search form with lets say drop down menus to choose location, accomodation type, stars etc etc....

ah, this is another issue which if you will not find an addon to help you at then you have one of 2 solutions, get ur hands dirty into some code and knowledge or get somebody to do it for you for few $$$, its too easy though.

Best regards,

Max

Hmmm....Getting my hands dirty would be as simple as querying the database?....maybe building a module to do this?
