I used 1&1 until recently. Bad customer service has made me want to jump ship and start looking elsewhere. I'll save a huge copy/paste job about my problems with 1&1, but if you do want to read it you can do so here:

Who do you use for your domain management? Have you found a registar that provides decent phone and/or ticket support? How about cost? Are all the cheapo ones just a page from the "you get what you pay for" book? What's your thoughts on the matter?

We have switched from Network Solutions to godaddy.com. I did it after a recommendation from a friend and so far I haven't had any problem with their services. I did the switch of economical reasons. A downside is that they don't support some international domains like .se

I have been using http://www.namecheap.com in the past and they offer a good support, but they don't have phone support, if I remember correctly.

Now I'm using http://www.registerfly.com. They have Live Chat, phone support and a ticket system. Their support was not good in the beginning, but has improved a lot. I think you will find mixed reviews concerning registerfly, but I am using them for a few years already.
