Hi

I have posted your note on to a coupla Brisbane guys who have expressed interest.

Also, we are using joomladay.org.au as an Australia-wide resource/hub for Aussie user groups and JoomlaDays, so if something gets off the ground, please feel free to use that site for details and/or ask me for help. More than happy to help [I set up the Sydney JoomlaDay]

You may also want to coincide it with this

I have literally just moved to Brisbane and would love to learn more about Joomla and meet some of the people that work with it as I want much more. So I would be very interested in a Joomla Day

I've put in some proposals for papers at the OSDC so I'm keen to do something then.

[edit: adding -]

They start here:
http://osdc2007.cgpublisher.com/proposals/1

There are 33 proposal at the time of posting.  Looks interesting.

So we might aim to get together formally around that time? or possibly informally beforehand.

Im not too sure what goes on at a "joomla day" but i generally just want to meet some other people in the flesh who know and use it and id be happy :)

im inner city brisbane, so im pretty handy to any part of town to meet up

cheers,
john

Ack!

I'm also in contact with a couple of others who are Brisbane based and Joomla-literate.

Happy to do a coffee catchup sometime.  We're based in Redlands.

I live in the Northern Rivers, NSW only 2.5 hours from Brisbane but still keen to meet other Joomla users so keep me posted.

I'd like some hands on training, if possible.

Are there any Northern Rivers Joomla users out there interested in forming a local users group?

How about it Brad?  :)

Not sure of the exact day yet Alex but it will be sometime in November.

Would someone be able to help me out.  I'm looking for a venue that will hold around 100 people for a full day event that is within cooee of a good coffee shop :) - something similar to what the guys did in Austin - one or two formal presentations and then some informal talks, demos, Q&A, etc.  Looking at least at covering migration to 1.5 in detail and I can take suggestions now for secondary topics (eg, how to use templates and layout overrides effectively, etc).

Thanks in advance.

Also planning the same for Sydney in October.  I don't have an email list set up for either event yet so just send me a "yes please, more info on Brissie or Sydney when it's available" email.

I'd love to go to a Brisbane Joomla Day.  I'm involved in the education sector and would love to see how Joomla is used in the wider community.

If anyone is interested in a formal training day for 1.5 can you please register you interest here:

http://www.joomladay.org.au/index.php?I ... aining=bne

The draft programme for the day can be seen here:

http://www.joomladay.org.au/index.php?I ... om_content

It will probably be late November but we'll need a good indication of numbers to be able to go ahead.

Thanks in advance for your support.

im not sure where people are thinking of for a venue, but if someone could explain the types of venues that the melbourne and sydney ones have been held at maybe i could try and think of a similar place here in brisbane.

looking forward to this day :)

If I'm in Brisvegas at the same time as a meeting, then I'd happily drop in. The Melbourne User Group's getting itself underway a bit more now, so if you're reading this thread and you're in Melbourne, check out http://www.joomlamug.com to see what's happening.

You may all also be interested in the Joomla Downunder facebook group too...

Tentatively looking at the 18th or 25th October, 2007 - just waiting on confirmation from the venue.

Unfortunately the venue I was looking at needed liability insurance and the cost of that didn't make the day viable at this stage.  Might be able to do something in November - will just have to see how we go.

Hi Peetree, Masterchief, Apnic et al

Any news on a Brisbane meet? I wouldn't mind popping up and joining in...

Also I have upgraded joomladay.org.au to RC3 and now have a forum (hooray!). I'd be delighted to give the Brisbane posse a spot on there, so you can all hook up. We're getting a reasonable amount of traffic these days, and it might be nice for the user groups in Australia to share one space, so we can swap resources, info and so on... and just hang out and have a yarn. I'm really keen to build community between us - the Melbourne group are hooking in too.

Anyone out there starting a user group?

all the best
Dex

A Joomla! day in Brisbane sounds like an excellent idea and I would be very keen on attending!

My marketing business produces predominantly Joomla! based site and I'm interested how other local businesses are using it .

Is there any word on when and where yet?

Hi all

Myself (Sydney) and Matthias Raab (Melbourne) are planning to hold Joomladays in the same period in 2008, hopefully May 20th for Sydney to coincide with CeBIT. We're coordinating to share resources and hopefully speakers/topics, to make these Joomladays really useful community-building and training events. If anyone is interested in setting up a Brisbane JoomlaDay in the same period, we can help out with  ideas, materials, structure...etc if required. I'm hoping that we can squeeze the most benefit out of it that way, so speakers can prepare once and either present several times or provide multimedia presentations in absentia.

What do you think? Really happy to help get this going...

Anyone want to pick up the baton? No experience required (as I found out last year!)

Great idea Dinah.

If you can stagger the events, we may also be able to share resources. ie a week between each one.

I'm certainly keen to attend a JoomlaDay in Brisbane, and am sure I know a couple of others who would want to come along. If it happens in December that would be great otherwise whenever it does, I'm sure I'd be there.
