Phpbb + Joomla Bridge *
I was just wondering if anyone knows if there is a "working" BRIDGE for phpbb and joomla yet . I have used phpbb forums for a long time and recently switched to SMF. I do like SMF alot but i would like to still use phpbb sence i am so use to it . I know about the timonline version and have also tried phpbb as a component and have even used mamboplus .... but it seems they really mess with the code of phpbb or joomla/mambo and its hard to install other mods to either one . I believe the bridge should be something like SMF's bridge its pretty clean and you can seem to still mod out both joomla and SMF. I really think phpbb would be a great addon to joomla and would give my right hand to see it bridged.

I installed a working phpbb bridge, it worked great, but I liked the look of SMF better.

I know it is a silly question in the open source world, but do you know when Joomla 1.1 is expected?

both actually.
A mambot that will save users to phpbb when they register and a modified phpbb install that will actually run inside joomla.

Hi Websmurf,
Do you have any documentation on what you are doing so I can understand what goes into combining phpbb and joomla? It would be great if you could give me some insight on how phpbb and joomla does user logins and what codes are needed to be modified to achieve a integrated login. Thanks for all the good work you're doing for us
PS: is joomla 1.1 is out?

At this point no real documentation available, just have a look in the code, that shouldn't be hard to understand.

Re: Phpbb + Joomla Bridge *
Ok, I have tried to use phpbb_userbot_1.0.0 with Joomla_1.1.0-Alpha and phpbb2 plus adn this are my findings. I installed phpbb_userbot_1.0.0 into Joomla 1.1, set the settings for the phpbb2 plus database and published the mambot and then added a url link in the main menu to link to my phpbb2 plus portal page.
I managed to login into the phpbb2 plus portal (I had the same user name and password registered in both joomla and phpbb2 plus seperately) but the problem came when I tried to create a new user either in joomla or phpbb2 plus. they don't register in both the databases and this causes an error with the sessions handling as well.
I could be using the mambot wrongly. Any advice?

Re: Phpbb + Joomla Bridge *
Hmm clean install of Joomla 1.1 in subfolder of my hosting.
When i try to install mambot trought Installers/Mambots i get this:
Will this mambot or have you anything for that: Transfer old user that are in Joomla installation, i have 370 users so i need to transfer them to and sync with phpbb (that only have one adminphpbb user(so not confused with admin of joomla))
Thnx.
The Mambot should check if the user is aprowed/enabled before importing to phpbb.
When i try to install mambot trought Installers/Mambots i get this:
Upload mambot - FailedWarning: copy(/home/****/public_html/demo/mambots/user/phpbb.userbot.php): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/*****/public_html/demo/administrator/components/com_installer/installer.class.php on line 367
Dont know what could cause this problem .... I can install component like com_joomlaxplorer.Failed to copy file: /home/*****/public_html/demo/media/install_436a599b5fbc8/phpbb.userbot.php to /home/*****/public_html/demo/mambots/user/phpbb.userbot.php

That will be the idea yes. I wouldn't use the 'old' component to import, you might run into bugs. I have done the modifications. Then I tried registering a new user called "tester" inside Joomla, but when I checked the 2 DBs using phpmyadmin, I find that the user is not registered in Phpbb2 plus table phpbb_users. Must both phpbb and joomla be installed in the same database?
it works when I log in using a username which was previously registered in both phpbb and joomla. but when I tried logging in using the new user "tester" and clicking on the forum URL (Which I set to the phpbb2 plus page) the user in phpbb2 plus remain as the previous user. Then I tried logging out from phpbb2 plus and went back to joomla to log out and I got a blank screen and the following error message in the picture attached:

No, haven't really had the time to explain how it works. It shouldn't be to hard though.
How did you set up your databases? phpBB and Joomla in the same database or different? What did you specify in the mambot parameters exactly?

Adam,
Are you the one that is working on the CB RC2 plugin for phpBB that is referenced at http://www.mambojoe.com/content/view/250/43/
I am really excited about RC2, I have it installed and believe that it will revolutionize both the functionality and the expandability of Mambo / Joomla systems.
Any info that you can provide on the CB component would be greatly appreciated.
Rick

Re: Phpbb + Joomla Bridge *
I know there is an ALPHA phpbb plugin that is work of: martijn189
This is from his topic, download link i will not post, but you can contact him and perhaps help in finishing this project.
This is from his topic, download link i will not post, but you can contact him and perhaps help in finishing this project.
Version 0.4 of the CB > PHPBB standalone bridge is complete, note that this is a beta version so it is a test version. I will write more features and fix bugs if found in next releases. Please tell me what u think in this topic, also post bugs and one more thing.... it is for the standalone version of PHPBB, so not for the PHPBB component and only for use on databses that run Joomla and PHPBB together. Support for seperate databases will come later....
Changelog:
08-11-2005 – Added delete option.
18-10-2005 – Added language files.
17-10-2005 – Added tab in user profile.
17-10-2005 – Release of 0.1 pre alpha.
Bridge features:
- When registering the new user will also be registered in PHPBB.
- When user profile is edited, changes will be made to PHPBB.
- In user profile, there is a tab showing the user posts in the forum.
TO DO:
- When using “forgotten password” feature, the password must be send to PHPBB.
- When creating a user in admin area, new user must be created in PHPBB.
- When user profile is edited using admin back-end, changes must be made in PHPBB.
- User can change their forum settings in profile manager, uploading avatars etc.
- Make it so that it is possible to run PHPBB on another databse, still using this bridge.
- Any suggestions?
WARNING:
Because I am a complete nood in writing PHP and mysql codes, I changed the way user id’s are assigned to users in PHPBB, no you don’t have to change core files, but during registration this plugin will use the user id from Joomla as the user ID for PHPBb… nothing else…. If you know a better method please mail me…
I need help with:
Can someone please tell me how i can get the password from the lost password function, because: "$_POST['newpass']" is not working because the new random created password is not in a form.. in other words how can i retrieve a variable that was created on another page?
