Tested in Joomla! 1.5.x SVN 8404.

Installation worked fine. No problems.

Maybe you are using an older SVN of Joomla!, since this was a bug when the table prefix for the database tables was changed to anything different than "jos_". You can get the latest Nightly Build here http://dev.joomla.org/content/view/17/60/.

Joomla! 1.5.x RC1 is from July 2007, there have been a lot of fixes since then.

So if you want the latest version of Joomla! 1.5.x you will have to get the nightly builds http://dev.joomla.org/content/view/17/60/. Otherwise you might have problems which already got solved.

I also get this error when I try to install sample data with different table prefix than "jos_" but as alexhokamp says, current nightly builds have this bug fixed.

I downloaded the latest nightly build , and i am still getting this "annoying error"

It all starts at FTP access, i get " the xml response was returned from the server invalid"..

So any idea why i would be getting this error, all permissions are good, globals are off and every thing is green ... But my face is red..

I am in great need of help, and i need it in simple man terms.

a msg on the dl page should read "this version might be problematic relative to svn. get the nightly for the most recent bugfixes."
this might keep ppl from downloading versions that don't work.

Yes my friend, it is the nightly build. And the name of that file is "joomla_trunk_svn.zip".

I was getting that same error after changing the Table Prefix when I pushed "Install Sample Data" button, as in the attachment.
But now that I installed the nightly build, I don't get that error anymore.

You say:

What steps do you excatly follow and are you working on local or remote?

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

I just installed 1.5 trunk and I didn't get the error, but I didn't get the sample data either.

My setup is on a local machine and I don't have the FTP section setup. I'm not sure if this will make a difference or not.

What is your system (OS, do you use sth like WAMP, if not what are the versions of your Apache and MYSQL) and what steps did you take excatly?

OS X 10.4.10 with Apache 1.3.33, PHP/5.2.1, MySQL 5.1.17-beta

Users/******/Sites/*****/******/libraries/joomla/cache/storage/memcache.php on line 83

I also have this error on the front page. Not sure why. I'm being a bit lazy not looking into it further, but I just wanted to see how close to production ready it was. I'll probably stick with version 1 even though this new one is looking pretty slick.

Looks to me like about some dependency in your system or some mistake you do while installing J!1.5 nightly build causes you not getting the sample data. But I can't say anything for sure since I don't know what steps excatly did you take.

Well, since I am also a J!1.5 newbie, I haven't seen this one before.

But anyways, the new features coming with J!1.5 are so good that made me to begin with my new production site using it.

Well, to be honest, I don't really care about the sample data. I just wanted to report that I didn't get it. However the other error is a problem since it displays. I know I could repress error reporting, but in the testing area I think it's better to report it. The error occurred after I changed some settings in the Global Configuration > System. It happen when I changed the Cache settings. I Have tried setting them back, but the error persists.

Here's The beginning part of that error: Warning: Memcache::addserver() expects parameter 2 to be long, string given in Users/******/Sites/*****/******/libraries/joomla/cache/storage/memcache.php on line 83

I reinstalled it on the local machine with FTP settings. I'm using pureFTP to manage my ftp and it loaded the sample data. So I imagine that FTP for local testing is required?

I went through the global settings and ran into this error again. Memcache::addserver() expects parameter 2 to be long, string given in /Users/*****/Sites/portals/*****/libraries/joomla/cache/storage/memcache.php on line 83

So when I change the backend settings I cause this error.

This is the section:
Code:
// Create the memcache connection
      $this->_db = new Memcache;
      for ($i=0, $n=count($this->_servers); $i < $n; $i++)
      {
         $server = $this->_servers[$i];
         $this->_db->addServer($server['host'], $server['port'], $this->_persistent);
      }

Okay.. I figured out what it was, but not sure if I fixed it properly or if it's suppose to behave this way.

Under Global Settings > System > Cache Settings: Memcache Server and Port number had to be filled in. I thought it was odd because I don't have the setting to Yes. What's the recommended address and port number? I used 3306 (MySQL), 21 and 80 without any problems. Perhaps if I turn the cache on it will become a problem?

Maybe I should join this post.
I didn't get an error message just a blank page (almost blank), it has the JOOMAL! logo at the top etc.
In my previous attemp I unpacked Joomla! into the "www" folder, this time I added the "Joomla" folder inside the "www" folder "www/Joomla" as per the instructions and it worked!! For some reason, even though I clicked on "Install Sample Page" it did not come up on my front page.
Is it too late or can I still add the Sample Page somehow? Thanks again.

I don't know if you're on a local machine or not, but I had to setup my FTP on my local machine. I use pureFTP and setup a virtual user with the  localhost IP address. Everything worked fine after that. Well everything but my ability to figure out how to use memcache.

Not really sure what you mean...

Am using eApps (host) i have ssh root access to my virtual server, it runs FTP/mysql/php/etc all in my own environment (not shared).  Everything was freshly setup today & otehr apps setup (i just setup wordpress) work fine.  So I doubt its a hosting issue.

Okay, so you're remote.

Did you setup the ftp for Joomla? I would setup an FTP account for Joomla and then install Joomla with the FTP information. That's  what worked for me. You'll need FTP for Joomla to manage the configuration.php.

Well you can run some tests without configuring the FTP. Just press NEXT without filling any data on FTP settings page during installation. Just not to get that errror.
You can configure FTP anytime in Global Settings.

Which version are you referring to as the origin of this topic is RC1? Please ensure you are using RC3 or even better the latest nightly build.

I had renamed the configuration_dist.php file and this was causing the problem.  As soon as I restored the configuration_dis.php file back, then proceeded with the install without ftp layer or sample data, the installation completed.  I was using RC3, the latest.  So it is something to do with renaming the configuration_dist.php file.

Yep you do not need to touch the configuration.php-dist file if you are doing a Web Browser installation of Joomla! (until or unless the configuration.php file has not been created properly - this would be done at Step 7 Finish and not before as detailed in the Installation Manual)

Just for reference, part of the current installation instructions encourages renaming of the file and changing permissions etc, while also saying it is fine not to....

I went with the first instruction!
