Core Editor Tiny MCE 2.0 - Copy from Word & Copy from text file
Please add the features that allow to paste from text file & paste from a word document in advanced mode [advanced parameter (Show - Hide)]. These are Tiny MCE core features, so that I don't understand why they are not included in Joomla
Without these 2 features that remove unwanted formats from desktop applications, a webmaster cannot seriously maintain a semantic/accesible web site or even a w3c compliant web site
These 2 icons (paste form text file & paste form word document) should furthermore also be enabled in the simple mode too, as many clients only want basic text edition, but are copying the content they will publish in the web site from word document

The editor I use already offers these functions. I suppose they have come with JCE?

don't you think it better fits in Joomla! 1.5.x_Dev forum?
Yes, please add the features that allow to paste from text file & paste from a word document. Or maybe these features have some side effect?

I third it.
This is something that real end users want to do all of the time but it really creates havoc. But I think that is an issue more for tinyMCE than for Joomla!.

In essence: TinyMCE offers the option to REMOVE the havoc from Word, or at least a good bulk of it. We just need to enable that feature by default (or allow it to be enabled in the admin) in Joomla

It's even more simple than that, because the feature is already present in Joomla/Pluggin/TinyMCE/Parameters-->Advanced mode. We just have to make it available in Simple mode too...

You're gonna HATE this - - but the very best way to deal with the problem is by getting to your main users, and having them alter the autocorrect option in MSWord to quit being "Cute" with quotation marks, apostrophes, etc.
Really, it's not a big deal. I'm going to add making a tutorial of this to my list of stuff I'm gonna do when I get time.

I have to say, that I don't have a clue what feature you are talking about. The advanced mode is on by default, all relevant buttons are on by default, too and all others are reachable through the plugin parameters. I can't find a button that is specific to text or word files, just cleanup and removeformat. These buttons are allready available.
TinyMCE does not allow to add buttons to the simple mode, as far as I can see.

Re: Core Editor Tiny MCE 2.0 - Copy from Word & Copy from text file
ranwilli,
Any time you have to do stuff like that is time to look at usability of your interface. Using your website should require the least amount of training possible. And the idea that you should go fix every computer in every home--and their kid's computer, and the computer at the public library-- to have certain options is, well, to put it kindly, not realistic.
And frankly, quotation marks are the least of the problems in the hundreds of useless lines the MS includes in its html.
Hackwar,
What we are talking about is that in JCE there is a special icon for pasting from Word that cleans up at the time of the paste. People recognize the w so it is at least somewhat intuitive that an icon combining the past icon and the W icon would be for pasting from Word.
Similarly to my comment to ranwilli, what you say may be true but it is not obvious to me, someone who has been using J! since day one. Honestly, I have never, ever noticed the cleanup icon before. It certainly is not an iconic representation of the idea that this is where you cleanup the MS garbage code--especially since it uses the format painter icon from MSWord. I've always assumed that it was also a format painter and since I never use that feature in MSW I have never investigated it in TinyMCE.
So now that we know that, the question is: How do I get a technophobe user to understand that if he pastes from word he needs to cleanup by highlighting and clicking the format painter icon?

I didn't know that this feature was in JCE. In any case, TinyMCE is a 3P editor, which we just update and distribute together with J!. We don't do any coding on it. You have to contact the moxiecode guys about changes like this.

I don't disagree with anything you said, you are 111% right - BUT - in my experience, I most often have 1 or 2 PRINCIPLE users of the editor, and they use it from their office chairs on their very own PC. And most often, they want to use MSWord, and there's no talking them out of it. JCE is pretty good at scraping all but the "curly quotes and apostrophes" out (or at least rendering the rest palatable), which all adds up to my taking the coward's route out, and "fixing" those one or two copies of MSWord. Everybody wins. They get to keep on being foolish, and I get some afternoons off.mcsmom wrote: ranwilli,

Hackwar,
That's right. That's why what we're all really saying is .... JCE, hurry up with the 1.5 release, please, please. .
ranwilli,
Sure that's probably true. But a lot of us have sites with many, many posters working all over the place. They are the ones we are not there to handhold for.
I have every teacher in my school who needs to post homework assignments. Just as one example, and that is, I am sure a relatively finite case compared to sites where everyone who registers is an author.

Like I said, EVERYTHING you said is true, and I completely agree with you. My only reason for bringing it up is because a lot of folks don't know they CAN fix MSWord.mcsmom wrote: ...
