Magento Ecommerce For Joomla!
Has anyone seen Magento ecommerce lately? LINK http://magentoecommerce.com/
It's looking really sexy! I know they have expressed interest into integrating it with Joomla and I'm curious to know if anyone is already on that beat yet, working with them to integrate it into Joomla. I mean the shopping cart looks amazing and I think it would be a great alternative to VirtueMart.
I have read in the Expression Engine forums that if enough people request it then they would be all for it. Well our community is a lot bigger than Expression Engine's. I say we start creating the buzz around it and see if we can get their attention.
If your all for Magento Ecommerce being integrated with Joomla give a shout out!

Re: Magento Ecommerce For Joomla!
Unfortunately they haven't released any of the code yet for Magento in a public Beta form. With that in mind I don't have any code to play with quite yet. At this moment in time it's about spreading the word and showing the Magento team that we as the Joomla community are very interested in what they have to offer. The great thing about this is that they will be ready with Magento around the same time that Joomla 1.5 will be stable which I assume to be around December.
When you said "Where can I read about your ideas about Joomla?" what exactly were you referring to?

You know I also just found this by googling: URL: http://www.socialtext.net/joomladayusa/ ... sion_ideas
I think that sounds a bit interesting.
Session Title: e-commerce integration with Joomla
Session Facilitator(s): Experienced developer working in this area

I think that sounds a bit interesting.

Re: Magento Ecommerce For Joomla!
Traditionally, how would one go about making it so that it integrates into Joomla? Is it much like an iframe approach? I'm not sure that would be the best way to go about things as it defeats all efforts to be searchable.
It would be great to figure out how to integrate their backend with our backend. I must say that Magento is looking ultra sexy! I wonder if they used MooTools or their own home grown JS library.

Re: Magento Ecommerce For Joomla!
I would say the easiest way to do that would be to go to their site and post a comment on a topic in their blog. By the way what is a joomla connection?

Re: Magento Ecommerce For Joomla!
Thanks tbianco for letting us know about Magento. I'm amazed at it, what a sexy e-commerce solution to say the least and I can't wait until a stable version is released.
I did a quick search over on the Magento forums and couldn't find a post asking about Joomla integration, so I posted and asked if there would be any plans to integrate with the big J. I shall wait and see if anything is discussed. I can only but get on my knees and pray to the integration fairies! And anyone else who is waiting for a bit of competition for Virtuemart and wanting something with an edge to it for their own websites, better get on their knees too.... (although VM has more going for it than a lot of the other stuff out there!).
Fingers crossed
It's here if anyone has any interest.

Re: Magento Ecommerce For Joomla!
You know what's interesting is I actually saw a post on the Drupal forums where they were looking to hire someone for theming and integrating with Drupal. I think that now that Joomla is more of an MVC architecture we will have more pull from developers wanting to develop a strong foundation for heavier extensions. Heavier in the sense of more complex or able to become more robust by leveraging fully off of the framework that joomla 1.5 has provided.
I'll place my two cents into the Magento forum, I do know this that the Magento website was built using Expression Engine and they liked it so much they were in talks with the Expression Engine community to have integration into EE first. However, with our community being so much greater it would be great for all of us to weigh in and let our voices be heard.

Re: Magento Ecommerce For Joomla!
I think it's worth anyone with real interest to register it on the Magento forums. Just so they can see we're serious about it or that there's interest. Roy Rubin, (Magento Team) is happy/certainly open for someone from the community to take this on. I think that's a great sign. I really do wish I had the skill and talent to do this myself.

Re: Magento Ecommerce For Joomla!
yes, wise words... on my own, I must confess that I haven't any extra spare time to do something for that Too much tusks and in this period moreover I'm active for promoting this coming 1.5 and it's difficult to follow anything... I hope somebody from there can post here, in this case it's easier to contact them by our dev...

Re: Magento Ecommerce For Joomla!
well ...
I think we should wait a little bit.
Magento is fairly new and they don't even have multi-language support at least the last time I checked.
We should pay attention on how's everything going and jump in when RC released.
It's just my 2nd thought.

Re: Magento Ecommerce For Joomla!
well, your opinion in very important and also me I see this "problems" but what all of us can see is that the project could be Great! For that future I'd like to follow it... What I see is that the devs involved hasn't the same number of ours. I hope to see a result of their... waiting...

Re: Magento Ecommerce For Joomla!
I hear what you're saying mihu, yet at the same time waiting is the reason why so many extensions are not 1.5 native or compatible because the dev community was waiting on 1.5 yet it's in RC2 and there still are hardly any extensions.

Very interesting project indeed. TY.
Just a remark, looking at the source, one can see that they use the Prototype/Scriptaculous JavaScript framework. Quite a stable one.
Another one, For French-speaking Readers:
there is already a french community site made with Joomla on http://www.fragento.org/
