As stated elsewhere, I believe the recommended approach is to update your Mambo 4.5 Stable-1.0.9 to 4.5.2 and then follow the instructions at http://help.joomla.org/content/view/818/27/

I'm in the same situation as you (with another half a dozen sites in various versions of Mambo) so I cannot offer advise about what to do to assure a trouble-free migration. I have several customizations to the 1.0.9 code so I will have to move with extreme caution.

Regards,
Kevin

As long as you haven't customized the core it's pretty easy.

- Upgrade to 4.5.1
- Upgrade to 4.5.2.3
- Upgrade to Joomla 1.0.1

There is a very good chance that some CMTs may not work. Make sure to make a backup before doing anything so you can rollback in case something goes wrong.

keliix06,

It was good of you to mention the compatibility of modules with the latest mambo/joomla versions.

Do you happen to know if:
- Templates that work for 4.5 Stable 1.0.9 are upwardly compatible?
- if docMan is upwardly compatible?
- if AkoForm is upwardly compatible?

If you don't know, I understand. I'm wondering if there is a general rule about upward compatibility in the recent (last year or so) of releases.

Hmmm... i'm in the same boat here... have a site on 4.5.1.09 and i need to migrate to joomla.  See original post here:
http://forum.joomla.org/index.php?topic ... icseen#new

I have rebuilt a few parts of the site with Phil-a-Form... but i guess i can just do these again on Joomla - i dont think i'll Use PAF again.

So i'm thinking of trying this:

1. create a copy of my site
2. backup entire database and files
3. uninstall all components from the copy
4. upgrade the copy site (should be a pretty basic install at this point)
5. reinstall components on joomla

Has anyone tried this approach for a (slightly) hacked installation?  Any comments?

Cheers
Greg
