Hey everyone,

I want to say to those dev team members that have posted their photos alongside their usernames here, I really appreciate it.  As a small business owner, I had serious concerns about the status of the Mambo project.  HOwever, having everyone push aside those cute little avatars and putting their name and photo up here really helps.  It puts a human face to the pain.

I'll change my avatar here now to my username, and I hope others will do the same.  THis is a wonderful community.  It's only making us closer now.

Best,
Ryan

Thank you, it was a conscious decision to promote openness within the community and I think it does promote a much friendlier/accessible atmosphere.
A face gives substance to the nick behind the post.

So i would very much encourage people using actual pictures for their avatars.

It's indeed nice to see all these faces. The down side is: I see my own picture on top of every page. I'm not that much of a narcist. And it up takes to much screenspace. Is there a way to switch this off?

Well, I've never been a big one for blasting my picture over the web - but I've been wasting a day of my vacation reading and collecting thoughts about the whole Mambo harangue - and this picture-avatar thing began to make a lot of sense and really characterized what the underpinning of this new incarnatiuon will be..

So I gussied up a shot that my 12-year-old took while I was driving - and here it is.

Here's to Mambo - or whatever it's going to be called.

Best regards,
Jesse

TomT- actually yes there is, see the little "up" arrow (or triangle in this case) right above your pic at the top?  Clicking that will "minimize" that section of the forum.  Problem is then you lose your "show unread" type links along with it, which I love dearly.

I am *this* close to replacing my picture with the photo of my cat (but mind you, he's cute). Can't find the preferences to take it off, though. I guess I need to get used to seeing my face smiling so widely at me.

Hey cool avatar!

Got a nice tip from lilqhgal's post. I decided to just minimize the photo section, and bookmark the unread topics URL instead. Works like a charm!

We would really LOVE it if y'all use pictures of youselves for you avatars.  I know we don't always have access to one we're particularly fond of, but it's really refreshing to get to see what you really look like.  With the amount of phone cameras, and digital cameras this should be doable for most of you.

Cheers,

I know what you mean.  While typing this I feel like I'm watching me -- creepy.  Funny, I'm the last person I would stalk.  But, I guess the benefit is not for me, but for the community.  So, gotta put up with it.

I'm still looking for the beer...

You know the FIRST thing that I noticed on arriving at this forum was the photo avitars and it spoke volumes about the openess that was to be expected here. It was as if everyone wanted to show true colors.

It may seem like a little thing but I think it is hugely significant.

Great to see you all.

David.

the downside of it is, you get my face peering out at you from the depths of a thread!  Possibly not a good thing to see late at night  :-X

I am so glad to see all of your faces. It helps. So, here's mine, and this is the only place I've ever posted my face in an avatar. I am a new $$ambo user, and had just installed $$ambo on a bunch of my friend's sites...oh boy...I think I am in for a true adventure.

You have my support - and admiration.

Yes, it is great to finally see the faces behind the generosity and community spirit.
I have receiced help from many of you guys since I joined the other forum in Dec 04 as Tony ET and I can't tell you how much your help has been appreciated.

How can the new CMS not succeed with a community like this.

I have high hopes for this new group at OMS and think that sharing our faces will bring a true community feel to culture here.

Thank you for having me!
