I have been working with the new Deep Pockets II component for the past couple days and am VERY HAPPY that this component exists. It allows you to impose a whole sub-category structure right over top of Joomla. After searching the forums for over a year, I know there are lots of other people who have asked the question "how do I put a content item in more than one category?" Deep Pockets does it!

I have a working example of this, where I took a single Joomla category and created two individual structures on top of it. One is an alphabetical structure (a directory), and the other is a "category" structure. Each of the items in my Joomla category now appears in one of the Deep Pocket categories for the alphabet, and between 2 and 8 different categories for the other.

Enough talking, you can see it at work HERE. Note that the opening page is a standard Joomla Blog Category display (with hundreds of items in it). Start playing with the two horizontal menus and you will see Deep Pockets II kicking into action.

Unfortunately I'm getting errors during install and also while using the backend. Mailed the developer, hoping he will get in thouch. I'd like to review this as well...

Klements,

I try to display/show Deep Pockets sections, categories, items... on my website and have checked "published", but Deep Pockets II did not show on my website.  Any hints.  Thanks.

Are the Deep Pockets CATEGORIES linked to regular Joomla menu items? The DP Categories then hold your actual display items, whether they are regular Joomla items, or DP items. (I am only using regular Joomla content items.)

There was a bug (may be fixed), so make sure you create the menu link from within Deep Pockets itself. Just use the "Link to menu" at the bottom on the Publishing tab when editing the DP Category.

I am also receiving errors during install. Klementz, did you do anything special in configuration to make it work?

Thanks in advance!

for the initial installation problem, the solution i found is to set full permission to folder administrator > components > com_menus.

Unfortunately, new error came up as you clicked on the component itself.

I had the same installation errors and also some showed up whenever I went to mainmenu to publish the links.  But I applied the solution from above - giving 777 permission to administrator/components/com_menus.  I uninstalled/reinstalled and all the errors have gone away.

FYI, am using latest Joomla on a linux dedi with

PHP version  4.4.6
MySQL version 4.1.21-standard

Now that it's error-free (for me, at least), I've been categorizing away.  Absolute top-notch component!  Super high-five kudos to the developer.

WOOTIES !!  Glad it's working and a high-five back at ya!

A new version WILL be out by this weekend (18/19 May 2007) - I believe I've nailed all of the warnings and notices that were appearing, but there are a few things you may want to check if you still have problems.

1. I'm still uncertain whether the com_menus permissions as standard present problems - not a single one of my Joomla Installations has had a problem, but the fix mentioned here most certainly will work (remember to revert to a more secure setting after installation).  New version will include a check on install for this.

2. In php.ini, make sure that short_open_tag=1 and error_reporting=1 - the majority of 'errors' being reported by users are simply warnings and notices caused by shortcuts I've taken with the code.  I'm pretty sure I've tied all of these down for the next release.

3. The only other valid error I've had reported is cause by NOT USING THE LATEST VERSION OF JOOMLA !!!  This is essential not only for running Deep Pockets II, but the security of your website also.

eMail from users is regularly ending up in my Junk Email folder for some reason - so I appologise if I've missed anyone.  I thank everyone for their patience.  However, some may not realise I am a solo developer, and there being only 24 hours in each day there is only so much that can be accomplished.  Preference is being given to the software (and my rumbling tummy) rather than support and documentation at the moment.

Hello Ragdata,

I think DeepPocket 2.0 is getting better than it was, but when I enter contents, the tools do not show the icon and the contents have the following error.

Warning: file_get_contents(/home/mytnpaor/public_html/revise/administrator/components/com_deeppockets/types/index.html/index.html.xml) [function.file-get-contents]: failed to open stream: Not a directory in /home/mytnpaor/public_html/revise/includes/domit/xml_domit_lite_parser.php on line 1079

Thanks a lot for getting an improvement.

AHA !!!  You have fallen prey to the secret feature of Deep Pockets II 2.0b2

:-[

Something didn't strike you as odd when you selected the 'index' data type?

'tis a bug.  Fixed for this next release - the quick fix is to delete the 'index.html' file from the administrator/components/com_deeppockets/types directory.  Of course, you will also need to delete any 'index' content links you have created.

I have played with this for about five minutes- look great. But I don't want to waste too much time if this can't work with OpenSEF.  My friendly URL's are gone when I use Deep Pockets.  Any ideas?

I haven't done anything with it with regards to OpenSEF yet, but that is a good idea.

I'll add it to the list.

Hi ... A really great component...

However when I create a deeppocket content item and use the code for mgmediabot component, it does not work. The same code works in the default joomla content pages though.

What do you think could be the problem.

Thanks.

I'll have to check out that bot - although it puzzles me.

What I did to get mamBots working was to create a data mimicy function that packages the data coming out of Deep Pockets to look as much as possbile (from Joomla's point of view) like the data coming out of the content component.  Then, I throw the repackaged data at the bots and hope for the best - and it works for most bots (even tested the AllVideo plugin with it).

Hey thanks for the reply ... I think there's something wrong with my setup cos AllVideos plugin also does'nt seem to be working in the deeppocket content page but works in the normal joomla content page.
I have no clue what could be the prob.

I'm really not sure what's happening there - I've even gone back and tested again (thinking that I may have forgotten something), but the mamBots are working for me.  I think the only pointer I could offer is that the Deep Pockets II Content Link Item Parameters take precedence over the Joomla Content Item Parameters.
