Forgive me if I'm showing my ignorance here, but something "seems" to be malfunctioning.  I could just as easily be doing something wrong, but I can't say.  I'm testing Joomla 1.5 and here's my setup.

I have an article (Example News Item 3) that's in a custom section I created called News.  The News section has an alias called "news".  In the top menu of the site, I created an internal link called "News" that also has an alias of "news".  I've tried this with each one having a different alias with the exact same results, so I don't think that's quite the problem.

If you visit the news page, it has Example News Item 3 listed with a Read More link.  But if you click the Read More link, you immediately get a 404.  The article is published and only in the section, not on the front page.  If you want to see what I'm talking about first hand, check out http://www.flawlesslogic.net/news and click the link for Example News Item 3.

Any ideas what could be causing the problem?

Thanks, Jinx.  Can anyone confirm this kind of behavior?  Where 404's result from visiting a section page in blog layout?

I found the problem... and it looks like a bug, but it (again) may not be.  I had enabled SEF URL's in the global site config.  At first I thought it was that I had also enabled mod_rewrite, but disabling that had no effect.  When I disabled SEF URL's in the global site config, it started working.

That said, is this likely a bug with SEF URL's OR is it more likely that I goofed up with the config I mentioned above?

I looked into this a bit further.  It seems to be both related to SEF URL's and to the sample news data installed with Joomla 1.5.  I haven't been able to dupe this outside the sample data.

*update*

In addition to the items below, it seems that all articles are being assigned to the one SEF url, eg -

- everything is added to siteurl.com/home/xx-articleslug

I've tried the following -

- Disable legacy support
- re-nominate default page to something else
- unpublish default page + set other default
- removing frontpage option for articles.

All yields the same result.

---

Howdy,

I can confirm similar behaviour but not with the demo data, purged it (via admin interface) in favour of some basic draft content / structure.

Following items are likely relevant -

- Have the 09/05 nightly (7381)
- have a top menu that consists of home, news, articles etc.
- home is default menu, frontpage blog layout
- have article header links enabled
- have SEF URL's and mod_rewrite enabled

The following behaviour was observed:

- Clicking a link from the front page directed to siteurl.com/home/52-articlename
- Clicking a link from the section menu 404's on siteurl.com/news/52-articlename
- Same behaviour from articles from other menu areas, including read more links.

Misc:

- With SEF and mod_rewrite turned off everything is fine.
- With SEF enabled and mod_rewrite turned off, everything 404's.
- With the computer switched off I can't see the issue and feel indifferent about it.

Re,

bt.

I'm having the same issue. All of my conditions as the same as btomo with the exception that I am using the 1.5 Beta 2 release, not a nightly build. Specifically, I have SEF URL's and mod_rewrite enabled.

I would like to add the following though:

Clicking an article title or readmore link will 404 (link points to siteurl.com/news/54-articlename)

If I take out the -articlename part and manually browse to siteurl.com/news/54 , then it is OK.

I have just found that this happens when the article title contains a period "."

Remove the period from the article and it is OK

1) I had identified the issues with SEF URLs some time ago. There is a unexpected interaction between Menu Items and between Menu Items and Modules:

http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic ... #msg815257

2) Also, errors when clicking read more... were being discussed here:

This one is completely obsolete, since the code has changed a lot since then. Therefor: Closing time! ;)
