Hi Jinx,

when validating your envisaged fix, perhaps you could check it against the following situation too:

In the front end "Home" page, when clicking the buttons PDF, PRINT or EMAIL for an article, the behaviour is as expected.
But when clicking the "The News" menu item, and then clicking PRINT or EMAIL for an article, the error 500 *Layout blog not found" is raised. Clicking PDF behaves as expected.

Checked with SVN build: 7670

Sincerely

Same here with revision: 7670

Note: this error occurs when click on read more on a article on Category Blog Layout... when click on read more on Frontpage works ok.

Not yet, but  svn revision 7000 does not have this bug, so you can work from that if you want.

7016 and forward does have the bug, I have not looked for which version caused the error. But it is a small set to step through.

Well as long there exists a menu link to a blog layout of a category no links to articles in that category work. In my case every article link on the site is broken, including links on the frontpage.

This makes testing a little bit difficult ...

So a temporary workaround would be to put every item in a hidden menu?

I will try this and see if it works.

I'm having the same problem... using the Jun 14 nightly build.

My menus are mostly blog layouts, and trying to access articles using either their linked titles or the "Read more" links results in the error.

I also know for sure I was not having this problem with the May 31 nightly build - but I'm not sure when it started as I haven't kept good record of every nightly I've used... when I upgraded to Jun 12 the problem was there, but I don't know which nightly I was on prior to that upgrade.

I also have noticed that when setting to show "Read more" and enabling "Linked Titles" at component parameters, the "Read more" link will be showed in all articles, even if the article has not a Intro and Main section separately.

There is a report on tracker regarding the subject of this thread:
http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla ... em_id=5612

And lately there was fixed a related issue:
http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,176658.0.html

[Edited to include more details]

I think the issue I'm experiencing sounds a lot like the one reported (and fixed) here:

http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla ... tem_id=383

and here:

http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,162253.0.html

If it's the same underlying issue surfacing again, perhaps it can easily be fixed again?

This still seems to be an issue in build 7746. It shows for me when I install the sample data and view The News (menu item) and then click on any Read more.

Hi Rob,

Please have a look to Tracker 5612. It seems a similar report.

Correct! Good catch, seems like the forum url has been added on the tracker already. Looking around in the code, but no luck finding the problem yet here...

I had added the link there :-[
(Sometimes appear reports on tracker when there is an unconfirmed thread in the Q&T board. Anyway, no problem after all).

This bug has been around since 4 days ago, and in my opinnion it seems to be conected to the troubles with global preferences set as default and the preferences for the article messing up each other,, menu item parameters,, or something lol (def not a coder here).  At least my problems started after finding nothing but errors in this section so i posted a post about it here:

http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,179020.0.html

But as said in the post in the above link:

Quote:
There is a rework of menu item parameters in progress these days. This type of errors are common and almost all have been reported somewhere.

1. Standard Section Layout issue:

Try to following these steps: 1) Edit this menu item, 2) Set the parameter "Show Article Title" to "Show" on Component Parameters. In this way you will see the article title on the list of articles.

There is a related report for sample data at: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,175556.0.html

And there is a global report of menu item parameter issues at: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,173602.0.html

2. Read more issue:

There is a related report here: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,177473.0.html

This quoted reply calmed me down, and as i see in this post even, the error is being fixed and glad i am for that,, cause right now,, it is a "irritating bugg" or at least a bit anoying one i must say. ;)

And i can for shure confirm it..

Well, I've managed to track down part of the issue -

I've been having the same problem - using Section Blog Layout, when you click on an article link, it gives you the same 500 error.

However:  If you change the URL in the browser and remove the &Itemid=xxxx  (or change it to lowercase: &itemid=xxxx )  the article will appear BUT, so will any items set to appear on the home page.

I think that it's related to the router.php, but I haven't been able to get any closer to the root cause than that.

Is it possible that the Section Blog Layout is being assigned before the application realizes that it's an article and not a Section Blog?

Just a thought.

M.K.

----------------

Correction:  I just checked it in Standards Section Layout - and the bug disappears.  It's ONLY occuring (for me) in the Section Blog Layout.

OK...sorry for the rapid fire replies. I think I found one possible fix/workaround for this issue (until the code can be retrofitted).

Here's the setup:  I created a section "TEST" using the Section Blog Layout.  When I tried to click on an individual article, I would get the wonderful 500 error "Layout 'blog' not found."

On a hunch, I copied default.php (in the article view) and renamed it blog.php - and voila!  the issue is fixed.

The files I changed:

/joomla/components/com_content/views/article/tmpl/default.php
COPIED AND RENAMED TO:
/joomla/components/com_content/views/article/tmpl/blog.php

:D

Confirmed - that fix works for me too.

Thanks.

I'm sure the devs will get to it, but until then I can carry on testing.

Nice find @khellhound!

Now I can get back to building our prototype site and get feedback from my partners so we'll be ready to go live as soon as the RC hits the ground.

Thanks!

Hi,

I can confirm that the error message does no more appear after having applied the workaround reported by khellhound in reply #18 in this topic.

But in addition to my reply #2 in this topic, I would like to report that I encounter still some trouble with the windows for PRINT and EMAIL do not always open, e. g. in "The News" menu item, the window for PRINT or EMAIL opens only after having opened the PDF window.

This holds for both standard templates, beez and milkyway.

Also, when looking for a definite fix to workaround from reply #18, please check for all occurrences in the frontend as well as for those in the beez template, as this template overrides some components.

I used SVN build 7757.

Perhaps somebody could confirm my findings. Thank you.

Sincerely

I applied the workaround (default.php to blog.php) and the problem with Read more is not there anymore. I also notice that pdf and print functions are working all right after the workaround. However email button still comes up with the Error 500.
This is on SVN 7769.

I noticed the above issue only with articles in "The News" menu only. When I created new articles under FAQs, they work fine.

Hi,

I may have tracked down the bug responsible for "layout blog not found". I replaced a line in the current view.php with that from SVN 7272 2007-05-02.

file: libraries\joomla\application\component\view.php
line: 620
from: $file2 = (!$tpl) ? 'default_'.$tpl : 'default';
to:    $file2 = !count($tpl) ? 'default_'.$tpl : 'default';

That did the trick for me. No more errors.

Stefan

Hi,

I do no more get errors, but I cannot yet confirm the complete solution of the issue after application of netmind's proposal .

Referring to my reply #21 in this topix, the PRINT window still does not open when enterring a fresh installation for the first time and trying to print an article:  "The News"  -> Read More -> PRINT.

Thank you netmind for your proposal, but I guess there is still another place left to look for a total fix of this issue.

I used SVN build 7769.

Sincerely

Before you guys go chasing yourselves crazy on this one, the problem lies in the router and not in the naming of the files. I'm working on a fix.

Which is why I classified my fix as a Kludge.  It's just a temporary fix that allows us to keep moving forward until the router code is corrected.  I don't even believe that the fix in reply #24  (changing line 620 in the view.php) is the "proper" solution.

There needs to be an exception built into the router that tells all views (for an article) to look for the default.php - since there is no blog view for an individual article.  I just couldn't find the location where it was making that decision to give an "actual" fix that could be included in the build...

(I'm a native Classic ASP/VBScript coder - this is my first venture into PHP...)

Actually I did:

Code:
$file2 = ( $tpl != null ) ? 'default_'.$tpl : 'default';

and it solved the problem. $tpl is supposed to be a string. I'm not sure why !$tpl didn't produce the same result!

Could you please try with the latest nightly build and confirm whether the bug is squished or not?

Thank you :)
