1st Part - ARTICLE LAYOUTS

I have tested the behaviour of the article layouts after unpublishing the category or section which an article belongs to. I will highlight in red color the unexpected behaviours and in green color the expected behaviours.

Standard Article Layout:

- When accessing to the layout at front-end (after unpublishing the category or section which an article belongs to) i get a Error 404.
- When creating a "Standard Article Layout", the list of available articles includes articles from unpublished sections or categories.

Frontpage Blog Layout:

- Articles from an unpublished category or section are still showed in the layout (this doesn't happen in Joomla! 1.0).

Standard Category Layout:

- When accessing to the layout at front-end (after unpublishing the category selected for the layout) i get a Error 404.
- When creating a "Standard Category Layout", the list of available categories doesn't include unpublished categories.

Category Blog Layout:

- When accessing to the layout at front-end (after unpublishing the category selected for the layout) i get a Error 404.
- When creating a "Category Blog Layout", the list of available categories doesn't include unpublished categories.

Standard Section Layout

- When accessing to the layout at front-end (after unpublishing the section selected for the layout) i get a Error 404.
- When accessing to the layout at front-end (after unpublishing a category included in the section selected for the layout) it shows only the published categories.
- When creating a "Standard Section Layout", the list of available sections doesn't include unpublished sections.

Section Blog Layout

- When accessing to the layout at front-end (after unpublishing the section selected for the layout) i get a Error 404.
- Articles from an unpublished category (belonging to the section selected for the layout) aren't showed in the layout.
- When creating a "Section Blog Layout", the list of available sections doesn't include unpublished sections.

Note: Those situations in which i get an Error 404, in Joomla! 1.0 it would be showed the message "You are not authorised to view this resource. You need to login".

This is the same test as above, now for the rest of components with the structure "Category -> Item".

1) Contact Layouts

Standard Contact Layout

- When accessing to the layout at front-end (after unpublishing the category which an contact belongs to) i get a Error 404.
- When creating a "Standard Contact Layout", the list of available contacts includes contacts from unpublished categories.

- When accessing to the layout at front-end (after unpublishing the category selected for the layout) it shows the headings (none contact item). Not sure if this is the expected behaviour.

Added a lot of fixes. The decision if the 404s are correct, will be made tomorrow. :)

I'll sleep over it but i would like to keep the 404's, they are technically correct and only improve search engine results because they are not indexed and prevent loops from happening.

The 404 bascially tells the user the same thing, you are not authorised to access this part of the website. I agree that this message is not styled in a consistent way but this can be overriden by the template designer in his own template, therefor I would like to keep the behavior as is.

Don't think that will change tomorrow ;) But i'll sleep over it hehe.  :pop
