This is a review of the “Page Title” and “Show Page Title” parameters (System Parameters) effect on
Page Title (Title at the top of browser) and
Layout Title (Title at the top of the layout).
I will show the
Results of the parameters setup on Page Title and Layout Title, for each layout according to the following combinations:
Quote:
- Hide -> “Show Page Title” = Hide
- Show Blank -> “Show Page Title” = Show | “Page Title” box = In blank
- Show Title -> “Show Page Title”= Show | “Page Title” box = Filled

We can see that there is a great diversity in the behaviour of the
Page Title and
Layout Title:
- The “Menu Item” title is used as Page Title, as Layout Title or for both titles (without consistency).
- The “Page Title” parameter is used as Page Title, as Layout Title or for both titles (without consistency).
- There are some situations in which the “Show Page Title” parameter not works as expected (when is set to Hide).
- There are some situations in which the Site Name is still used for the Page Title (this is a residual issue).
- There are some situations in which the Component, Category or Item Title are used for the Page Title (without consistency) and sometimes these are combined with the Menu Item name or the Page Title parameter.
- The “Standard Section Layout” has a repeated “Page Title” parameter in the Basic Parameters section.
Suggestions:
- Use “Page Title” and “Show Page Title” parameters with consistency for the Page Title (browser) => I think the “Front Page Blog Layout” is a example of the expected behaviour.
- The same parameters could be used for the Layout Title (in the way of “Front Page Blog Layout”), but currently there are some situations in which the Layout Title is taken from the Section/Category titles or from the Language Files (user layouts). I would advocate for more consistency.
