I get auomatically logged out every time I add a new translation.  Something to do with the new password salting in Joomla 1.0.13, or some other issue, maybe cookie/session changes?

Any ideas?

Yea we have some ideas. It seems that there is a common issue:

It looks like the forced loggout bug is not solved in 1.8 RC1  :'(

No it is a Joomla! core bug that is already known and fixed in Joomla! 1.0.x SVN.
