If Andy wanted to distribute another template in the core, he doesn't need a contest to do it.  Further, he is not going to submit an entry because it would be a conflict of interest seeing as he is on the Core Team and the Core Team is going to pick the five finalist.  This is about giving other designers the opportunity to have their work shown off to the world, demonstrating the power of Joomla!, and having a bit of fun for everyone involved.

To make it crystal clear, I am going to make a small addition to the rules:

Quote:
Core Team members may not submit entries in the template contest.

To make it even more crystal clear, what does mean XHTML valid? Strict? Transitional? Frameset?

And CSS valid? 1? 2? 2.1? 3?

;)

I don't want to be rude, but the current svn template uistaller does not support this condition
  • Templates must utilize at least one Joomla! 1.5 template parameter.
For that it needs to load an ini file to set and fiddle parameters

Well, considering that this is going to come down to a vote by forum members, I would recommend using the standards that other people use and work in the common browsers.  If the template doesn't work because you are using CSS 3, then people aren't going to vote for you.

XHTML 1.0 is the requirement.  If you want to use strict, you may.  If you want to use transitional, you may.  If you want to use frameset, good luck.

Hi,

I have echoed the news on our community site: http://forum.tazzu.com/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=1455

and one of our members is asking whether multiple people could collaborate to submit a template?

:)

Walb, that thread and the one referenced inside it both refer to language files.  That is not the same as a template parameter.  To my knowledge, the template parameter system is working.

And it means 1.5 stable will be definitely released after October 13th 2007?

I agree but it cannot be localized like milkyway or beez.
Don't expect localisation. Maybe that should be excluded in the condition ;)

The best combination is for sure "XHTML Transitional 1.0"  and "CSS 2 Valid"

I / Q&T can not promise or set a date for the stable release. We are working hard on the RC2 at the moment. It might even be better to hve the template in and ready before the final is released, to give the template a last check too  ;)

About the contest; I wish all the designers good luck and I hope they have some nice ideas and lots of inspiration !

Good idea! We hope to see a lot of state-of-the-art templates. Only a question:

Entries are submitted by way of a post titled "Template Contest Entries"... but where? Which Forum or dedicated sub-forum? In the article there is no link to any forum.

Robs, I have posted  that elsewhere.
I will be redundant here:
The first purpose of 1.1 which became 1.5 WAS to permit all languages to make their way easily into ALL aspects of the new Joomla version.
Including ini files in template installer is a MINIMUM condition to fill this goal IMO.

And it should be an en-GB ini file as this is the reference used by Igevans Translator component which all Joomla users may get easily.

This is not a rant, but... it could become one easily.
Read my lips.

Actually, I would like to see someone tackle Strict. It's a lot easier to switch a template to Transitional, and there are very few XHTML Strict templates available. The same goes for CSS 3; I would like to attempt an XHTML 1.1 site with CSS 3 without having to break the code. A good template would be a good start.

I see no reason to exclude Development Working Group members or any Working Group Members for that matter.  Core Team is excluded because it is a conflict of interest for us to submit entries and be reasonable for selecting the final five.

I hope this idea is open to template club developpers too. In that way I think there'll be more templates for us... :)

This is great, it will also means that 1.5 will have a whole bunch of great templates to go with it (assuming all entries are released)

You assume right.
Extract of rules:
Quote:
Entries are submitted by way of a post titled "Template Contest Entries" which includes a brief introduction to your design and a link to the template package.  The template package must be available without registration and must be available until the five finalists have been announced.

I committed a fix to the template language file issue in SVN revision 8587.  It will be fixed for Joomla! 1.5 RC2.  Please test the fix to confirm that it works correctly.  Also remember that language file parameters need to go into the administrator language directory because they are used in the back-end so the element need to go in the element.

See: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,191592.0.html for more information.
