This thread was suggested from the Migrating & Upgrading forum. Thanks to user focus and developers, Joomla 1.5 now has legacy backlink support. However, it does appear to have issues. This thread is a starting point for whittling down issues to be assigned tracking numbers.

Right now, it appears that SEF-based Joomla backlinks are not working (only the non-SEF legacy backlinks are), and RSS backlinks using the Joomla 1.0 URLs are not working either (SEF or not).

Someone with nightly builds online please confirm as I do not have 1.5 online currently.

Open Source Matters... but it can't always be the solution. Developers make great software, they should be able to profit from it.

greetings hatoncat, good to see you are still on the case.

Since the issues have been kicked over here, from the migration thread I'll post what I have come up with so far to some of the related issues here.

First, ran some tests on the RC3, and ran in to so many URL related issues that had nothing to do with the back link migration issue, that I stopped until the unrelated URL issues settle down. likely RC4.

Regarding the problem discussed in the the migration thread with there being so many possible existing URL rewrite schemas, and not just the standard joomla 1.x SEF or non-SEF url conversion (e.g. components, third party SEF urls, custom SEF urls), I believe I have a possible solution based on the existing 1.x extension sh404sef. I am talking to the developers about a 1.5 version. It has fairly good built in 301 function (and not just a 302) and customization. The idea is to at least use it as a stepping stone for converting existing joomla links in to the 1.5 rewrite schema especially for such situations where there are existing components with different url rewrite layouts from either joomla 1.x or 1.5. It also has a plugin system for specialized situations.

Again we are waiting for the RC3 url issues to settle down, and for the native legacy links implementation to reach some sort of stable state,

Hi cenc,

Just stepping in for a minute. I have spent a couple hours just to see how hard it would be to make the existing sh404SEF work under 1.5, at least decently. It does not look so good so far, but not undoable either. I too have run into a few issues
- minor :  $mosConfig_locale is not defined by the legacy plugin
- major for me : I understood the Legacy plugins setting : Use legacy URL routing would make J 1.5 use old style URL which should allow sh404SEF to operate, at least I hope. BUt this setting seems to have no effect. Can someone confirm ?

ATM, I too have postponed everything til RC4 is out.

Best regards
