For begin of this task hi everybody! I claimed this task! I will explain how to use the banners component and module featuring parts of a website. My name is Branko , 16 years, i work in joomla since Decemver 2006. My nick name on google : baneweb

Quote:
Write a document explaining how to use the banners component and module.
Description

For this task you will help beginning users move beyond the basics to take
advantage of the flexibility of Joomla!.

Website administrators often would like to encourage their visitors to
explore different areas of a site. One way to do this is to use the core
banner component to feature different parts of the site.

Create a one page document that describes how to use banners for this
purpose in Joomla! 1.5 and how to use the features of the component to
understand user response to the displays.
Skills Needed

    * Familiarity with Joomla!
    * Good writing skills
    * Good page layout skills

That's it for now, when i have questions i wil post.

cheers  :pop

Please read GHOP Contestants Please Read: Task Process Start to Finish for important updates on the contest.

Thanks for participating in the GHOP contest Branko - good luck with the contest.  8)

Yes, please use Joomla! v 1.5 and the core functionality - not a third party extension.

Amy :)

The document is very well written and illustrated in my opinion.
You might want to put more stress on using banners to "encourage their visitors to explore different areas of a site" as it was suggested in task description.
Remember to leave a space after dot which ends a sentence. It is easier to read this way ;)
Good work!

I gave you some feedback through tracked changes on an odt.  The file is at:

Hope this helps!

Excellent updates, Max (TromboneChamp!)

The only thing I would add to that is a suggestion to go ahead and get rid of the Installation section at the beginning. It's very helpful information, but might be confusing to those wanting to learn about banners since they do not have to install it, first.

This is a very well done piece. I don't believe I have seen a document explaining banners and they can be tricky to learn.

Thank you! Look forward to your next draft!

Amy :)

Here are my revisions.

One thing to consider when writing a User's Guide: it's best to get right to it. Tell them what to click, what to type, what to upload, what to insert, etc. Try to take them in a straight path without going back and forth. Try not to explain - instead, show.

It takes practice. And, I need much more practice, myself!  ;)

Thanks!
Amy :)

Wow! That is so much better! It is clear - easy to understand - sequential - right to the point! Thanks for your efforts on this as it will help end users understand what is frequently a difficult topic!

You may place your documentation on the Google Task site and I will mark this task as complete.

Thank you for your considerable contribution to the Joomla! community!
Amy :)
