Here's a list of a few of my favorites..

Editor: WYSIWYGPro (http://www.wysiwygpro.com)
Why: Loads fast, easy to use, XHTML, Awesome handling of images and padding.

Component: AKOForms (http://www.konze.de/products/akoforms.html)
Why: Easy to use, customizable, optional advanced features. Stores data/uploads to database or mails them to you in a nice html email.

Modules: JPG Flash Rotator (http://www.joomlashack.com/The_News/Joo ... odule.html)
Why: looks cool. easy to configure, free, and it's mine ;) but really, I like it.

Mambot: {mosloadposition userxx} (http://help.joomla.org/content/view/689/27/)
Why: dozens of uses. a hack-free way to load a module inside content.

Admin Component: TFS4Joomla! (http://www.caffeinecoder.net/component/ ... /Itemid,7/)
Why: Lets you see who is linking to you, stats, IP's and all that good stuff

My list includes some redundancy (2 forum systems), but find that all in all, I can get most sites done without 3rd Party add-ons.

Mambot:
RD_Readmore from Run Digital (http://www.run-digital.com/download/cat_view_4.html )
Why:  Allows greater flexibility when using the Read More.  Particularly if you modify the file slightly, you can then create red more links in the format "your text" + title alias + "your text".  This increases accessibility.

Component:
Simpleboard/Joomlaboard
Why: Good basic forum component if you want an easily integrated forum.  Solid, plenty of good features.

SMF Bridge
Why: If you need a more solid forum and want it integrated.  Requires a full stand alone install of SMF.

Bookmarks
Why:  Provides more flexibility than the build in weblinks component

Modules
Extended menu  (http://de.siteof.de/extended-menu.html )
Why: Allows enormous flexibility in menus, including the use of flat lists that display children items (submenus), Access Keys, link titles, which is not currently available out of the box.  Increases accessibility tremendously.

I can't think of any other ones I use on a regular basis...

1. Community Builder (http://www.Joomlapolis.com). The latest version is simply amazing. Allows you to construct a MySpace-like community site.
2. Google Map integration (http://www.joomlagoon.org). Lets you visualize all your registered users on a Google Map. Way cool.

Community Builder (CB): customizable user profiles to which you can add an image, featuring a plugin architecture letting you interface it with newsletters, galleries, user pages, link content to the profile, the Joomlaboard forum...

SEF Advance

Joomlaboard forum because its basic and simple, interfaces with CB

JoomlaXplorer to handle files from admin

JACL -custom user groups and access rights -just starting to test, but looking good

Various bots like the above, userXTD, flash insertion etc..

mod unpublished for admin

A good template

Nic,

There is a "bookmarks" project on the Forge, but it doesn't seem to have any file releases?

http://developer.joomla.org/sf/projects/bookmarks

Were you talking about a different "bookmarks" add-on?

A link would be fantastic if you find the time. ;)

Here's what I use:

SMF-Joomla Bridge, Community Builder, XTRatings, Yahoo Publisher Network module, Google Adsense Module.

All of these items can be found at developer.joomla.org. If you have specific questions about them let me know.

good question:

mambots: google adsense bot because you've just go to have it where people can see it and the related items bot. this works on meta data and is very very tailorable.

components: smf is very cool and pony gallery, 404SEF is a must for me, facile forms, samsitemap and i'm just starting with yanc but it looks very good so far

modules: nothing really jumps out as something i use on a regualr basis ... but the pony gallery random image mod is nice - only use it on my personal site though
