Hi,

I had a custom module linked to an RSS feed. After the upgrade from 1.0.2 > 1.0.8 it is no longer working in that no content is displayed (any custom output does appear).

Any idea how to fix?

My upgrade went great with the exception of this issue.

I have gone through, added a new module, published, unpublished etc still no luck.

I'm still able to read the sample RSS feeds that came with Joomla 1.07.  However, I added some "Moreover" RSS feeds in 1.07 that no longer work in 1.08.

I tried Yahoo RSS newsfeeds and they work, but Google RSS newsfeeds don't.  My suspicion is that straight forward RSS feeds work, but compound feeds don't.

Has anyone else exerienced this?

I'd like to use Google and Moreover feeds...  HELP!

I just test yahoo feeds and they work but the Google feeds do not.

I believe it's something to do with the way Google and Moreover type feeds are structured.  Perhaps they conflict with something in 1.08.  Google News and Moreover feeds worked in 1.07.

I'm not sure, but most short, straight-forward URL feeds look like they work.  The Google and Moreover URL's are quite long.  Maybe 1.08 isn't recognizing the longer url's ???  I've also found a few other "longer url feeds" that do not work.

getting this in regular RSS since 1.08 upgrade -

Warning: fopen(): open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/cache/rss20.xml) is not within the allowed path(s): (/data/in/b/user/www/joomla:/usr/local/lib/php:/data/etc/php:/data/gadgets/data:/data/gadgets/cache) in /data/in/b/user/www/joomla/includes/feedcreator.class.php on line 711

perhaps there is something on line 711 that should be more literal. ;-)

I have the problem displaying the latest posts from an SMF forum.

It is a short RSS feed URL and it worked a treat before upgrade.

Both the module and the componant are unable to display this one feed.

After reading colin99's post, I gave 777s to includes and other files shown in his post... Now I get the "you are not authorized.." msg...
I reloaded the 1.09 folders and still have the -you are not authorized- msg...

Stumped!

I did all the permissions things too -- made no difference.

Compared some files from 1.07 and 1.08 and could not see any
differences in the feedcreator(class).php file other than
some minor rearrangement of things.

Warning: fopen(): open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/cache/rss20.xml) is not within the allowed path(s):
part of the error message offers (I think) a big clue..
the path /cache/rss20.xml is, literally not within the accepted path --
I thought of modifying line 711 of feedcreator.php to put in the full path to
make it work -- have not gotten to that yet.
I am sure that there are lots of Joomla sites out there now with  broken RSS.

I got mine back to where I started...  Old sample rss feeds included with 1.07 work, google/moreover do not.  Colin99... I think you're right, the clue is in your error msg.  There's something different between 1.07 and .08 - hopefully one of the developers will pick up on it...

Yeah I think you are on to something.

It would be nice if we could get some sort of official word from the Joomla staff, this is approaching 1 week old. I would be happy with just a "we know the issue we are working on it"

Although not one of the developers, I am hoping to pick it up and publish the results.  :D

Hi,

Darn it, for the third upgrade in row there is something wrong with the custom module rss output (on Frontpage). My two Wordpress 2.01 includes that worked beautifully in 1.07  - POOF - simply vanished.  :'( Joomla rss exports are included fine, oddly enough (or not so odd).

Please test module Rss includes on next development rounds thanks.

Is there anyone with a fix yet?

Okee, since I cannot wait for a possible fix of 1.09 in 4 weeks I have figured out a workaround, not a fix.

Go to http://rssmix.com , enter your Topix, Wordpress or any other feed that does not work in a custom module since 1.08 and create an rssmix feed. Use that rss mix feed and it will work fine again in Joomla 1.08.

This trick should also work in other tools that "rewrite" your rss feed into another format.

Still waiting for a true fix. My Wordpress feeds validate flawless in feedvalidator.org, still, the Joomla 1.08 custom module is unfriendly to it..shows nada...

I ran into that issue when I upgraded with 2 of my 5 RSS feeds; Google and Topix  :(.  But the others work as they did in 1.07.  I think I'll try Habbekrats' rssmix fix.

I had one other small issue with adding links and images in the new TinyMCE 2.0.4.  But I guess that's another topic.

My business site is getting affected :(
Newsfeeds are so vital for my page and now that 1.0.8 is not displaying the newsfeeds, my site is just dysfunctional for all this time now.

I am planning to roll back the upgrade. Has anybody tried this?

Or should I wait some more time?

I hope an administrator or developer gives some reassurance that they are working on a fix.

RSSMix does work.

I am disappointed that in over 1 week we can't even get a simple response from the Joomla team. A simple acknowledgement of this issue would have been satisfactory to start.

I didn't understand, but after I have logged in (not in administration, but in frontpage), the related items module and custom module (RSS) came back!  :o

I believe that my problem finished after click at link "Check-In My Items" in Frontpage (after log in). Am I wrong? I don't know...  ???
