ACCESS DENIED

Postby kostas_g78 » Wed Oct 07, 2009 5:01 pm

Hi,

I have been trying to install joomla for 3 days now and yet i can't do it.
I get this error message in the final step (#7)

"Warning: file_put_contents() failed to open stream: Permission denied in C:\Inetpub\vhosts\dihome.gr\httpdocs\libraries\joomla\utilities\compat\php50x.php on line 70"

Please help

thanks in advance!

Do you have the correct permissions set for the folder you are trying to install Joomla into? You might try changing it to full access (777) to see if that fixes the issue.

My guess is that it is trying to write the configuration.php file and can't.

Let me know what you find.

i had the same problem, but it seems that i could not modify the file permissions thru CHMOD via FTP(Filezilla). any suggestions as to why that happened?

Does your hosting provider have a File Manager that you can use on their site? It's possible that you can do it through there.

Another thing you can try is to get NinjaXplorer and try it through there:
http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/core-enhancements/file-management/4746

Your issue is probably that the owner/group for the file is not the same as your FTP user. Permissions can be kind of annoying, but once you get them setup correctly, you usually don't have to worry anymore.

Let me know if you can't get it working.

thanks alot for the help i appreciate it alot.

the problem is, i have not yet been able to access the joomla backend.
reason being when i started the installation (i did the manual one, started the sql and the php correctly, setup the databases too checked and it worked), everything was fine until the last page whereby it tells me to remove the installation folder, the error comes out, and after some research with some mirror websites that i made, i figured out that most probably it could not write the configuration.php file that is in the root folder of the web server.

and yes, i have a file manager in the remote host server. i edited all the permissions and enabled it and duplicated several accounts.
however when i used filezilla to edit the permission of the php50x.php this error came thru

"Status: Set permissions of '/httpdocs/libraries/joomla/utilities/compat/php50x.php' to '777'
Command: SITE CHMOD 777 php50x.php
Response: 500 'SITE CHMOD 777 php50x.php': command not understood"

any idea why?
thank you very much in advance!

It could be an ownership issue, if FTP is not the owner of the file it may block FTP from making changes. That should mean that the server is the owner and you should be able to make the changes with the Host's File Manager. If that works then disable the FTP layer by removing the FTP info in the Global Configuration settings after you gain admin access.

If this is just a clean install, I would drop the database that got created the last time you went through the installation process, make sure your files/folders have the right permissions, and just go through the install process again.

If you get the same error about configuration.php, it should give you the content that should go into configuration.php. Copy that and you might be able to create it through FTP. It's not a great solution, but at least keeps you moving forward.

Let me know if I can help with anything else.

okay problem problem this time something like

"file_put_contents(C:\Inetpub\vhosts\creatifmarketing.com\httpdocs\configuration.php) [function.file-put-contents]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in C:\Inetpub\vhosts\creatifmarketing.com\httpdocs\installation\installer\models\model.php on line 850"

came out.
what is happening? i tried ignoring it and removing the installation folder and i navigated to the website, something like "No configuration file found and no installation code available. Exiting..." came out.

thank you very much!

*grr bad day my life and my computer is not working out for me. >:(*

okay guys i managed to get the site up.
what i did was grab the configuration.php from another website i managed to setup successfully, and i opened it with adobe dreamweaver.
i edited line 6
var $sitename = 'YOUR SITE NAME';
line 16 to 18
var $user = 'YOUR SQL LOGIN';
var $password = 'YOUR SQL PW';
var $db = 'YOUR DATABASE NAME';

and lastly the root folder lines 64 and 65
var $log_path = 'YOUR ROOT FOLDER/logs';
var $tmp_path = 'YOUR ROOT FOLDER/tmp';

then i uploaded it via ftp into the root folder of the website domain :D
works like magic. as a newbie i realised the power of php hiak hiak. thanks guys! i will post here if i have anymore issues :D for anyone who wants the configuration.php and could not find it anywhere i have attached it here for convenience. cheers! i zipped it!

ps: er anyway the installation said configuration.php was writable from the start, but because of the error in bold font at the top during the end of the installation i believed it skipped creating the file and i'm ended up with nothing. so thus the manual upload
