I think this line should be amended to:
In the beginning, we all struggled with figuring out how to get Joomla! to do what we need done
In the beginning, we all struggled on how to get Joomla! to do what we want.

Please keep the english simple as users are from all over the world, some of them might have difficulty reading your thread.
And try to minimize the technical jargon.

regards,

-eddy-

Not certain i agree on the first sentence. i do not believe that it is grammatical correct to stay that "we all struggled on how" ... i think you "struggle with how".

mabye you're right.  :)

Quote:
How about this: "In the beginning, we all struggled with Joomla!."

that would be fine

I accept what you are suggesting on the English simplicity. Give me some time to think about this. The intent was to make it fun and (hopefully) more motivating. But - I understand your point.

Take your time.  ;)

Quote:
As for the technical jargon, I am really at a loss. Could you provide specific examples to help me out?

that was a suggestion not a comment. sorry for getting you misunderstood.
i should have remove the *please* word.  :-[

I REALLY appreciate you taking time to give us feedback! THANKS!

same goes to you for getting this ready.
your work is much appreciated.  :)

DO WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP
This is a pay it forward help environment; early on, you will be the one who gets help – you should not feel bad about this. But as soon as you start walking upright, begin helping someone else who is crawling around by answering a question or two on the forums.

Just so happens me and guilliam have an idea of a "Pay It Forward" concept

perhaps we can finally use it  ;)

Dameinov is still pouting about his lightsaber, but he'll come around.

Hey D - can you delete your posts (above) so that we clean up this thread from our editing together? THANKS!

:-\  I'm building a Joomla website.  Is there an admin manual that I can read?  Q/A on each subject isn't working for me.  I need meat and potatoes.  (I almost pulled a Dan Quale on myself with the word potatos..)  Anyway, I have two other websites, with Front Page and I do well.  But I am having a bit of trouble understanding what's what and what goes where...  Like news and news  streams.  Help?

DMReid - honestly, if you follow the steps outlined http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,47524.0.html, you will get ONLY meat and potatoes and you will learn how to do news, news streams. I *promise* you or you will get your money back.

The first user's guide is only 20 pages and you will not believe what you learned taking that step. PLEASE try it - then, let me know what you think.  It is fantastic. Give it a go -- and then report back. I think you will see what I mean!!! It's a quick read and it covers the basics with great precision.

I am excited to hear what you think!!!!!

D

I read through the post and all the linked articles and manuals.  Excellent stuff.  Seriously, it's really great to get you started and particularly to understand the vocabulary Joomla! uses.

Thanks to everyone involved.  You saved me a lot of time today.

Cool - nice of you to respond, Phoebe!  There are many who have done a super job of explaining how to use Joomla, aren't there? Good stuff!

BetRocker --

Your first post - how cool! This forum is an SMF website. You can get the software and instructions: < http://www.simplemachines.org/ >.

Also, if you are looking for tutorials for Joomla! check out the "Absolute Beginner's Guide to Joomla!" < http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,47524.0.html > This is a collection of *excellent* tutorials people have found help in learning. (You might be an expert Joomla! person, in which case, just ignore! )

Keep posting your questions to the forums -- but if you have a question that gets stuck too long -- feel free to PM me and I'll either try to help or find someone to help you!

Welcome to Joomla!
Amy

To all documentation animals - great work. I am very new to this and am reading anything that is out there.
Started my Joomla site and am definitly learning (painfully slow) something every day.
Like betrocker I am trying to complete the SMF installation. working on it since April 17.

Thanks all for the links to forums and downloads.
