Hi,

I'm sorry if this is a common question, but there is so much info out there that it just seemed better to ask on the official site.

I'm looking around for software options for a private membership site and was hoping for some info/advice.

I would like to create a website where:

All content (other than the front page) is only available to registered users.
Users can sign up and pay a subscription as part of the signup process
Users can create a 'profile' page and view other members profile pages
possibly a forum for members use
members can send private messages to each other
members can 'link' to each other to indicate that they have worked with each other, or know them (as in LinkedIn)
Calendar service for Events available to members

These services all need to be seamlessly integrated to create an entire site.

I guess my questions are, can Joomla do this and, if so, what modules would be required.

Thanks

I also am interested in this. I currently maintain a club website and want to migrate it over to Joomla! I know it can be done, I'm a newbie myself and just installed everything and I'm trying to get get everything going. My main concern is the member login side and how you add members. Any help is appreciated!

Thank you so much for the info, I will keep at it! This is my first Joomla site, so hey we will see. My site would have close to 1400 member logins, is that possible? Thanks again.

Yes if a user register him/her self then you can activate there acount at Site>User manager and if they register they will automaticly show there i dont know how much it can take but im sure a hole lot. Or you can manualy create an acount wich a friend could use to login but be ccarefull as you dont want to give a user a high group ranking a normal user just make him Registered but i it automaticly makes him registered. 8)

What I am trying to do is a login for members only so they have the ability to make reservations online to events via a calendar.

There are a number of bespoke events Extensions on the http://extensions.joomla.org pages as indeed there are additional controls to button down the registration process, take a look and (I suggest) play around with as many of them on a localhost installation until you find the right one or combination of extensions for your particular purpose.

The numbers of members you are talking about are easily catered for by Joomla!

If you don't want to manage user subscriptions, I recommend using a subscription component http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/e-commerce/subscriptions

with my personal favorite:
http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... ions/10723

I am in the middle of developing a big membership-based website for a national professional network and it works great.
