Nice idea, is the picture supposed to either refresh or stream?

The image itself is supposed to refresh every 30 seconds - the whole page will not refresh.

It seems to be working on my end as it should on FF and IE.

Figured this would be a decent thread to thank Mitch, Louis and Andy and Johan (vicariously) for their presentation of Joomla 1.5 at Boston PHP yesterday.  I took a lot from it and it has me more excited than intimidated by the prospect of upgrading.

Image

Didn't take much for photos, but here's a pic of Johan discussing features of the 1.5 API.

Mark Witherspoon, the organizer for Boston PHP, mentioned that he should be posting a podcast and photos of the meetup fairly soon.  Look out for them at http://www.bostonphp.org

Works fine on IE, not in FF 1.5!
Which version you using?
I'm really starting to believe this 1.5 French-ized version is crap,
as I also don't image previews in J! content edition image tab.. :(

PS: nice Tshirts, where to gt 'em? ;)

The webcam refresh and image previews work for me in FF 1.5 English version - so I suspect your localized version may have some issues.

It works fine on my (English) FF1.5.0.1 too. And pointri thanks for the photo. I'm looking forward to the first Dutch Joomladay later this month where Johan will be present and give a presentation of 1.5.

Those are the feet of Mitch (left) and Louis (right).  Photography of the useful or demonstrative variety was never my strong suit, but the Boston PHP photos will likely show their actual presentation, rather than all of us huddled around a Powerbook.  :)

If your asking wat we used to display the webcam images, then we used this relatively old but simple and still functional module:
http://mamboxchange.com/projects/modwebcam/

We then use {mosloadposition} to load the module in the content item

My interest is more related to what webcam (software) you guys are using to write away the image. Is it windows based or is it usable on linux as well?

There are a few webcam that have linux drivers available for download BUT you can find that the firmware of the actual webcam you have bought is different to that which the drivers were built for. I know as I bought a logitech model which was known to be compatible only to find that mine had a different chipset but the same model number so didnt work

I come in stereo, that's the only way to keep up with the project anyway and still be able to code it ;)

Cool, thanks for the link, nice story.

The mp3 for the podcast does not work for me and it shows as 0 kB when I download it.  Bummer!

There are a ton of ways to do this...Especially if your running an MS system...

WebcamXP is probably one of the best as it will be as close to streaming as you can get with the right nsettings and will even send audio...

But really the hard part is done on the client side not the cam side...
As was stated the webcam simply uploads a pic to a server every X seconds...
USers go to a webpage that either refreshes every X seconds or to a page with a Java App that will update each time the picture has changed on the server....

WebCamXP also allows users to directly connect to the webcam getting as close to full motion video as possible with technology like this...
