If you click on the green arrow icon the advanced settings stuff is briefly visible then vanishes again!

Installer page 5 (FTP configuration):
Same header errors as above. Otherwise displays okay, except that advanced settings are again only briefly visible before vanishing.
Enter FTP settings, then....
Installer page 6 (main configuration):
Same header errors as above. Otherwise displays okay.

Can't go any further.
Platform is:
RedHat Linux 9
Apache 2.0.40
PHP 4.2.2
MySQL 3.23.54
The final, fatal error is because mysql_real_escape_string was introduced in PHP 4.3.0. Note that page 1 of the installer
only checks for PHP >= 4.1.0
