Hi All

I am new to joomla, thought i should give it a try. I am able to sucessfully upload all the files to my webserver, but then immediately after editing the config file with the necessary database settings, I get the message that the installation folder must be deleted before I can continue...

Now how in the world does that work? I have not yet went through the installation steps, seeing as this message is the first thing I receive after FTP uploads.

Busy setting all files to chmod 777, just to see if that changes anything, but i have a feeling it won't.

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

If you are installing Joomla!, the file configuration.php would be created for you during the install. You need not create it before hand. Also, did you change the path of the log and tmp folders?

You could try the following:
(a) Rename the directory \installation and test the site. Once successfully tested, you could delete the directory \installation.

(b) Rename the file configuration.php to something else and try the installation.

OMG! Is it really necessary to have an installation so greek? I was about to say some very ugly things, but then just took a breather and tried again, slowly, and following the quickstart guide this time.

With other aps its much mroe straight forward, just next next next, insert your data, next next next, password username, next next finish...

Or perhaps i had this much trouble because i am a bit tired and irritated with my "manager"... who knows...

But finally got a joomla site up and running...
How can i get joomla to have the look and feel of a "static" website? No articles, like a blog. something in the line of this guy's site, I found googling (www.werner-it.com)

You could just create create articles and create menu items of the type Article Layout.

I strongly suggest you doing the tutorial in the Quick Start Guide to familiarize yourself with site development using Joomla!
