Hi all
as nothing like this exists yet, here is a simple rule of thumb on how to use the 508 Hack.

1. Download from -> http://www.run-digital.com/download/cat_view_23.html
2. You need to use mambo version 4.5.2.3
3. This step is important otherwise is wont work. Make sure all file are chmod 777
4. Install the hack using the components upload.
5. Then youre done.

If you woulld like to revert to the old state, you will need to uninstall.

If you perhaps have any other infos as to what is changed, please add here.

Please define "all files" to be chmod 777. Does it means I have to go through every single folders in FTP to be chmod 777?

Thanks,
JSG

I'm confused too- "Make sure all file are chmod 777"?? all files in the 508 Hack? Or all files in mambo/Joomla?

Hi All
I sent an email to the developers and the only response I got was chmod 777 if you experience any errors, this of course means you need to check the files where the errors are given in the installation of this Hack and make sure they are 777.

The 508 Hack works with MAMBO 4.5.2.3 ONLY

I know this hack since july at http://www.run-digital.com/download/cat_view_23.html but I don't use it as, sorry,  hacks are a "wall" for maintaining an up-to-date site.

So I'm very sorry not to hack my site as I understand the great work done... but please can anyone describe me how this hack change the site, what is the relevant visible change? Is it possible to see it in the future standard release of joomla v.2?

If you have a look at the file that you can download, you will see that some of the content parts such as content.html.php have been rewritten to remove the tables... this is what the hack essentially involves.

in terms of joomla being like this in the future, I guess the developers are working on this...

Thanx for yr kind reply, I like yr hack and I hope to see it in next rel. of joomla. I cannot hack my site, even for my next migration to joomla 1... Compliments for yr work and if in the next release of joomla I don't see yr "idea" integrated I'll be very angry  >:(  >:(  oh yes  :) :)

There is no need for that hack newart.  Most probably the next joomla will be fully accessible.

I hope so but I haven't read that in any post around here by a dev team member or in roadmap or other... I know that now there is even Nic (about accessibility issues and more) and so I hope to see something now... but I don't know what and when...

I guess you haven't seen the Accessibility Statement...  Doesn't get much more official than that.

Hmm, FWIW, 508 is really just a "lobotomised" version of WCAG 1.0 Priority 1 ;)  So people meeting WCAG are, in fact, meeting 508 (except for a couple wee details that are easily taken care of)  8)

It's great! I wonder only when... as per roadmap it will be on october... In your opinion is it possible? I know that this is a one million euros question and so... sorry for that, ok?  :-[

Things are being moved around a fair bit.  There's quite a bit to accomplish, and I don't think October shall see the next release. :(

from a higher level directory on the command line in some posix based system
chmod -R 777

for graphical ftp clients, many have set attributes (READ WRITE EXECUTE)
777 = all three, READ WRITE EXECUTE for EVERYONE (very insecure, but thats a whole other discussion)
