Joomla! User Manual 1.0x

Version 0.01

___________Page 21

Chapter 3 - Joomla! Users
Types of Users and access permissions

--Users of Joomla (<--typo, add ! after Joomla) web sites can be broken down into two broad categories: (<--- should
  be a colon, not a semi-colon)

--1st Paragraph:
1st sentence:  Guests are simply users of your Joomla (<--typo, add ! after Joomla) who managed...

2nd sentence at the end...with some content been (typo, should read being) reserved for...

--2nd paragraph, last sentence: ..are broken down into groups;(<--- should be a colon, not a semi-colon)

--Blue highlighted box that begins with Note:

2nd sentence should be The word, not The Work.

--Last sentence before next table, user table: Those roles are; (<--- should be a colon, not a semi-colon.)

--In user table,

Registered.....A registered user has no ability to create (insert comma)edit or publish...

Author...Authors (delete comma) can create content, signify (better word to use would be
      specify) certain aspects of how...

--1st paragraph below user table:

2nd sentence....system administrator to change their profile through the backend
      (<--typo..currently reads backed) administrator's panel.

--2nd paragraph below user table:

2nd sentence...as with Frontend users, Backend (<--typo..currently reads backed) users may have different
privileges. (<---typo. Delete semi-colon after privileges and insert period.)

___________Page 22

Access Table:

Manager:
2nd sentence: ..or delete extensions to Joomla. (<--typo, add ! after Joomla)

Administrator:
2nd paragraph, 1st sentence:  ..edit the profiles of Super Administrator's (<--typo, not possessive, should simply be
plural..Administrators or read ...edit the Super Administrator's profiles...

Paragraph after Access Table:
2nd sentence:  ...all aspects of a (<--typo, add ! after Joomla)
(note: Question on the end of 2nd sentence:  ..through the backend administrator's panel. Shouldn't that simply be
  'backend administrator panel'?

2nd paragraph below Log In screen shot:
For direct registrations(<--insert comma) there is (<--typo, for plural 'registrations', the word 'is' should be
'are' or should read, 'for direct registration, there is...) Additionally, if remain registrations remain plural, then 'an'before
'optional email activation' should be deleted.  To summarize, would recommend this sentence reads as follows:
For direction registration, there is an optional email activation to ensure users are...

___________Page 23

Recovering a lost password

1st paragraph, 2nd sentence:
Joomla!, like most systems today (<--insert comma) allows you...

2nd paragraph:  ...presented with the following dialog; (<--typo, should be colon, not semi-colon)

Below Lost Password screen shot, 3rd paragraph: ...web site design these days (<--insert comma) so don't...

Blue box beginning with Note: ...and email is inherently insecure (<--insert comma) it's always... (And I would also
recommend changing the word 'in' email to 'via' email.

___________Page 24

1st sentence below User Menu screen shot:
The Following (<--intentionally capital 'Following'?) table gives s (<--typo, 's' should be 'a')

Account Details:

1st paragraph, 1st sentence:
...click on the 'Your Details' menus (<--typo, should be menu) link, which will present you with the
following, (<--typo, no comma necessary) dialog.

Below WYSIWYG editor screenshot:
...to edit HTML content, (<--no comma necessary)

___________Page 25

Managing content:

1st sentence: In general, content management generally includes (<--redundant. Should read either "In general, content
management includes" or "Content management generally includes..) the following three operations; (<--typo, should be
colon, not semi-colon)

Bulleted list:  1st two items have periods at the end.  3rd does not.  Inconsistant.  Previously, bulleted lists have
not used a period, so would recommend removing the period from the end of 1st two items.

Author:

1st paragraph:
1st sentence: As we said earlier (<--insert comma) different users maybe assigns (<--typo, should read: users may be
  assigned)  different roles...

2nd paragraph: ...in their User Menu (<--insert comma) they will be...

3rd paragraph:
2nd sentence: ..where the Author can Title (<--intentionally capitalized or typo and should be lower case?)

word, "Apply")

Bulleted list of options:
--choose font size (<--insert comma) style and color

3rd paragraph:
2nd sentence: ...input into the intro text field (<--insert comma) but for longer articles (<--insert comma) it..

Below editor screen shot:
2nd sentence: ...the TinyMCE editor then (<--typo, should be 'than')
3rd sentence: Instead (<--insert comma) you..

___________Page 27

1st sentence (continued from p. 26)...pictures should go; (<--smoother read would be to use a period here instead of
a semi-colon and then capitalize "The" to begin a new sentence.)

1st paragraph:
1st sentence: Just below the WYSIWYG editor display you'll see two icons, one label "Insert Image". (<--For a
smoother and more accurate read, recommend changing this sentence to: "Just below the WYSIWYG editor display you'll
see two icons. One is labeled "Insert Image".)

2nd paragraph:
1st sentence: ...icon, called insert page break, (<--for consistancy, recommend changing to "Insert Page Break",)
3rd sentence: ...and provide next (<--insert the word 'and') previous links...

Below "My First Article" screen shot:

t17169,

Thank you!  One of our doc team members who wrote the User Manual is unavailable for the next two weeks, so please continue to publish your suggestions/corrections here in this forum like you just have.

Michelle...sorry, but I want to make sure i'm putting this in the right spot.  I did the first 17 pages tonight, placed in this forum, but not as a reply to this post.  Was that correct protocol?

Thanks.

I believe that the best is to publish here your corrections.  As you make corrections, indicate clearly which pages, so that no two people  proof-read the same pages.

After the first reading of proof-reading is completed, than a second proof-reading session will need to be done by others as I like to get fresh eyes.

Hey, I was not sure by your post whether the corrections are being suggested here, to be actually implemented later, or whether they are only being reported here. If they are being reported here, would it make sense to actually do the editing work in the text itself on the wiki, to make it simpler and quicker?

I may have misunderstood what is being discussed here, so pardon me if I am mistaken in my suggestion.

Jennifer,

This Suggestions, Modifications & Corrections forum is where those who are in the community report their suggestions and corrections.

Then someone on the doc team impliments the corrections.
