Is anyone else having an issue with MSAS (M*mbo Stand Alone Server) changing system fonts on their machines?

Everytime I install MSAS my system fonts change so that my XP Login window has italics instead of normal straight up/down fonts.

I use a video chat program that obviously uses the same system font and it turns the text on that program to italics also.

Furthermore, I have noticed that if I have MSAS running and go to view websites (firefox and IE) , all standard text is turned into Bold text. If I turn off MSAS, the boldness disappears. A sample would be http://www.liverpoolfc.tv -- view the main page that has the headlines and stuff. If MSAS Is running, the subtext is bold. If MSAS is off, the subtext is normal

Anyone else having this issue?  I've tested it on XP and Win2000, both do the same

Mambosolutions does offer free non-high-priority support here:

http://support.mambosolutions.com/?_a=k ... 00b67d6c26

I've been running MSAS for some time now and haven't had the problems you mentioned above. Sorry! :(

I've submitted a support ticked here for a (similar?) issue:

Quote:
Hi there Mambo Solutions Staff,

I recently tried to uninstall MSAS to free up some hardrive space. The uninstaller process after a few seconds prompts you with the following message:

*** Begin message ***

c:program filesmsashttp_rootusrlocaldatamenu1.tff

This file cannot be deleted. Click retry to try again. Click ignore to continue and delete the file the next time the system is rebooted. Click abort to stop the uninstall.

(Button options)

(Abort) (Retry) (Ignore)

*** End Message ***

I first tried clicking on the "Retry" option, but the same exact message pops up right away.

Next I clicked on "ignore" and it continues with the uninstallation. Right before the uninstall comes to competition the program freezes at the removing the following file:

c:program filesmsasmsas-license.txt

Windows task manager show the application as "not responding" and no matter how long I let it sit their it doesn't snap out of its funk.

After force quitting the process in Task Manager it changed all my Windows icon fonts and menu bar fonts to italics.

I have two questions for you:

How do you remove MSAS? (I'll gladly re-install JSAS once you create one for Joomla.) ;-)

How can I get my fonts back to normal? It is a bit hard on the eyes to read everything in italics.

Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Kind Regards,
Paul

I also included a link back to this thread. Any updates from the Solutions staff will be posted here as well. Sit tight. :)

I managed to fix the both problems on the XP machine by continually reinstalling MSAS and then getting all my original windows fonts back.

Win2000 still has the issue but I guess I'll go reinstall that too to see what happens.

Thanks for the feedback on this TheSaint

I had the same problem on WinXP. Basically I found out that when I went into the Fonts folder in the control panel, the Arial font had been replaced by a shortcut. So I deleted the shortcut, and reinstalled Arial. That seemed to fix my problem. So I hope you've got a back up of all your system fonts because lucky for me I had a backup of all my fonts in a .rar file.

we had an issue with the installer replacing a systems font because it was 'registerring' the font with windows. the newest installer has that registration removed.

We have had no other issued with the uninstallation process brought to our attention or in our own testing.

I would say - redownload the newest version (hopeful to have JSAS out this week) and reinstall/uninstall.

Thanks for the information.... we will keep trying to keep jsas updated and bug free.

@ShImMySt: I didn't find a shortcut to Arial, it seems that all my Arial fonts are otherwise intact.

@Josh: Thank you for the update. We're all looking forward to the new release. In the mean time I'm going to try and reinstall this font upon the next reboot.

Thanks for your help you two. :)

Probably don't need to say this but make sure all traces of the old font are gone first. :) Good luck.

Perhaps ShImMySt would be so kind as to attach the font set for you to his next forum post? (Hint, hint.) ;)

Lol okay here you are.

Also, make a .rar or .zip file of all your fonts, that way if something goes wrong, you've got the foints handy to re-install. ;) Seems so obvious now doesn't it... when something does go wrong!  :P

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Thanks ShInMySt,

All so much easier on the eyes when it's not italic.

Yes, I'll make a backup - though I didn't expect to lose fonts installing a third party product! But learnt my lesson as I'm still recovering from losing a hard disk last week with all my Mambo/Joomla dv environment on, not backed up :-( But then coding is so much easier when you've done it once!

regards

I had this problem too!

For the longest time I couldn't understand why everything in Firefox & Opera was italicized. Than I stumbled onto the digitalpoint forums and found out it was caused by msas. Now I have to fix all the fonts..>_<

Maybe someone should sticky this thread so that people who are experiencing this problem will find the solution easier to find?

Lol , me too thanks guy's !!

BTW;  due to those "funky fonts" ((keywords) missing system font arial msas problem)  Other programs didn't work at all.
Don't know why but ; RSS Bandit and MediaPortal (sourceforge) would not work with this arial "replacement"
Just so you know.
Solution; read the posts in this thread.  ;)

greetings
skerpel

Well that's for the devs of MSAS and the programs you mention, to solve. MSAS should not mess with the system fonts anyway, so until the devs of MSAS solve that problem, there's always going to be problems with this. :/
