Hi all, I am trying to install a couple different photo slideshow modules (shackslides & nivoslider) via the extension manager, and I get this error for both:

JInstaller: :Install: Cannot find Joomla XML setup file

I have tried changing permissions & tried installing from tmp directory & also url, none are working.

This only happens on Joomla 3.0, I have tested on another site using Joomla 2.5 and it uploads successfully.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

The "Cannot find Joomla XML setup file" usually means you are trying to install an extension that wasn't designed for the version of Joomla you are installing to.

Just to piggy back on this thread since I'm having similar issue! :)

That ALMOST fixed my extension install as well... I got a successful install message briefly, then it was replaced with an error "500 Invalid Controller"

Dump:

Invalid Controller
Call stack
# Function Location
1 JAdministrator->dispatch() JROOT/administrator/index.php:56
2 JComponentHelper::renderComponent() JROOT/administrator/includes/application.php:162
3 JComponentHelper::executeComponent() JROOT/libraries/legacy/component/helper.php:339
4 require_once() JROOT/libraries/legacy/component/helper.php:359
5 JError::raiseError() JROOT/administrator/components/com_jevents/jevents.php:109
6 JError::raise() JROOT/libraries/legacy/error/error.php:242

... A generic search for this 500 error returned someones advice to reinstall Joomla but that seems a bit extreme :/

Extension is latest version of Jevents 2.2.8 calendar which says 3.x compatible (running 3.0).

My first post here still getting familiar with Joomla. Any help would be awesome, thanks.

I got the OP's error message, and it turned out my XML file had an un-closed tag in it. Make sure the XML is well-formed.

I even got this message, "JInstaller: :Install: Cannot find Joomla XML setup file" if I try Joomla the first time after a couple of years. The posts doesn't help me, but what helps was to assign the *.zip extension to the standard windows program (Explorer for Win 7). Before this if I got the failure message I used HaoZip. My intstallation of HaoZip even gives a failure when double Click a *.zip file.
So it seems that joomla uses the attached standard programm for unzipping. It could not unzip and has no xml - file.
After this installing a template works. I didn't try other extensions yet.

Greetings and good luck

There are two sub folders in the main VirtueMart downloaded zip file...Extract the two sub folders that are also in zip format. Upload and install the mail file then the one with .aio extension separately...that should do it.
