I am moving from mambo to joomla, and I'm also making a complete redesign of my site, so following the 'migration' path is not an option because I changed everything: sections, categories, modules, templates...

Anyway, I exported just the articles from the 'mos_content' table, and I then changed by hand the columns 'sectionid' and 'catid' to match the new ones (I'm only interested in a couple of sections but they have a few hundred articles each).

So far so good.

The problem is when I import the sql file I get errors about the unique ids of the articles... is there a way of discarding that field and regenerating it for each INSERT?

And more important... doing these changes by hand and then importing them is going to give me headaches afterwards?

I can't think of anything that will break making these changes, but then again I'm fairly new to mambo/joomla.

Tnx in advance

This has not been tested on mambo but should work.
However you will have to change MOS to JOS before inserting at the top of the window
Com Export Content http://forge.joomla.org/sf/projects/com_export_content can get all the content from one site and export it to another allowing you to insert by:

+ Sections and the categories contained in it and all content items in the categories.
+Categories and all content items in the categories.
+Content item(s).
+Static items(s).

You can also edit or create new items before inserting into the destination site where it will automatically write the new section and category ID's.
If you receive any errors upon inserting the data magic_quotes being disabled will probably be responsible I'm putting a patch together to fix it

Can any one elaborate on this Component? The details on the site are a little vague.
I'd like to hear comments from people who have used it.

What would you like to know?

This is the latest release beta 1.3
http://forge.joomla.org/sf/frs/do/listReleases/projects.com_export_content/frs.export_content

And will compile all sections, categories, content and static items from one site into a component that can be installed at another site.
Note: The export_content component must be installed on both the source and destination sites to be able to import/export data.

You may then transfer content by:
+ Sections and the categories contained in it and all content items in the categories.
+Categories and all content items in the categories.
+Content item(s).
+Static items(s).
