I'm having a difficult time getting certain RSS feeds to work.
Which versions are compatible?

I'd like ones like this to work.  It works in my feedreader, sharpreader.

http://lists.unc.edu/read/rss?forum=webmasters&rev=0.92

Which extension would be useful if it doesn't work natively?

Hi,

I'm new to Joomla! and I want to putting rss feed on my site, I followed the FAQ but I can neither see where it is nor now to see it.

I know I'm a newbie but the FAQ should have written in more details on how to get in display, step by step. Because as a newbie like me I have no idea on how to show in on the home page.

Please help.

Thanks.

Are you using the module method or the component method?

actually I tried both method, the component way it did add a new category/item but when I choose it, it displays no feeds. The feed link works fine on Firefox.

There really aren't any other steps. I have several feeds. Usually all I do is create  a new module and  paste the feed url. THen I publish the module and put the module in a visible location.

yes, my problem was that I don't know how to put the module in a visible location. Can you provide more information about that ?

Go to the module manager.
Look at the list of modules and see which ones you can see. Note what positions they are assigned to.
Open the new module with the feed and assign it to the same position as one of the modules you can see.
Then you will be able to see it.

You can see what your positions there are various ways. One is to go to the backend and go to Site>>Template manager>> module positions.

Here's my problem I'm having with a couple RSS feeds.  I'm working on a gaming website, and am housing feeds in one section.  I got 9 feeds currently, pointed at this page on my site...2 of which don't actually work and show feeds.  http://streetdated.com/component/option,com_newsfeeds/catid,62/Itemid,7/

Auto Assault, using the feed http://www.autoassault.com/news/index.xml works in regular feed services like Thunderbird, or live bookmarks, but does not work feeding on my website.  Also, Gods & Heroes http://community.godsandheroes.com/atom.xml.  All other feeds I have had no problems with, so not sure what I can do different to make them show up.  I debugged it, and I get no errors with the rss feeds.

I scoured the forums here, and found nothing, except people having similar problems, only without getting a response.  I'm using Joomla 1.0.12, with the default news feed manager.  I run on a hosted server from Site 5.  I've already attempted to change cache time, number of articles, and turned on cache for the website, none of those attempts worked.

An example of a worknig feed would be Vanguard http://vgplayers.station.sony.com/includes/news/rss.vm or Guild Wars http://www.guildwars.com/newsarchive/rss/news-current.xml.

Any help would be appreciated, this is about the only issue I have ever encountered thus far with Joomla, so it's been a good ride so far.

Maybe Gods and Heroes doesn't work because it is atom and not rss.

I assumed the RSS reader could read Atom, as the RSS feed works in every other rss reader I use.  Even if Joomla does not support it, I don't believe it solves the issue of the other feed that does not function correctly.

So any, ideas, or should I bring this to the general help boards where I might have a lot more views, and may find someone who has had a similar issue?

I wouldn't assume too much about the rss issue. You might want to look at one of the extensions for rss which can handle more complex issues.

If you start a new post, make sure it is really new, not just a repeat. Describe what you have tried etc.
