We're close to revision 5000! of SVN, so I'd like to ask if there's anything that can be said about ETA for beta now?
(and I do not mean "when it's ready"..). Or current % completed? Or anything?

Hi,

I just read the "news" on Your website and I really don't understand why You still stick with Joomla! ?? This is no attack at all but reading this text I would assume that You would make a research on other CMS's that will better suit Your needs. Aren't there any? I haven't actually done research on that.
I really like the tool analogy. If Joomla is not the tool for You because it's a screwdriver and You want to get nails in the wall, take the hammer :-)
I also agree with You and think that some of the decisions made where not 100% clear and logical but since I cannot code I just have to take what is there or leave it. Waiting on soemthing in the future and therefor delay any projects can be dangerous in an open source environment.
And then on the other hand, is Joomla so popular because it is missing so many vital features? I have been around since the Mambo 4.0 days and what has happended in these years in terms of growing is extraordinary and I can image that this is really hard to cope with for the dev team. Joomla for me is at a turning point right now. A lot will depend on how the next few month turn out. Will Joomla make the step from baby to a mature grown-up or will all end in chaos? ;-)
I have strong faith in Johan and his team and I think that they will bring Joomla back on track. We will all just need lots and lots of patience...

As I wrote above, please don't take it personal or as an attack, I just wanted to give my 2 cents to the discussion.

What are the extraordinary things which happened since mambo 4.5.x?
I don't see much change yet.. that's about 2-3 years now.. some nice additions / improvemens, but no major feature afaik..
Joomla does everything I need, that's why I use it for my own site.
I do not post most of those thoughts from a personal p.o.v, but in the light of thousands of forum posts
I know it's easier to "use the right tool for the job".
But for some people, it is not as easy to learn new tools as complicated as a CMS can be, once their needs evolve from their first site setup, as it is to try and push for needed features to be added to the one they are already familiar with.
I do not currently have any personal needs for the missing features, I am so used to working around the existing limitations it's ok as it is. Except site security.
I also strongly believe in the advantages of 1.5 (else I'd be wasting my time here), that's why it is so upsetting to sit around waiting (as a non-coder too).

With the "extraordinary" things I meant the growth in everything (attention, community, legal issues etc.) and the things that You call nice additions / improvements. I still have some Mambo 4.5.2 installations running and compared to this Joomla 1.0.11 IS a really big step forward in terms of speed, handling and stability. Okay, no big new features have been implemented but when listening to Johan at JoomlaJuice and reading post and announcements I get the feeling that implementing those feature would have just been kind of workarounds and they decided not to just expand the code again but refactor it to make future implementations much flawless. I personally understand this decision 100% because I'd rather do something right from scratch than fiddling (does this word exist) around. Okay at my everyday job I do fiddle about stuff but there I get paid for this because otherwise my time would be too precious ;-)
I am really anxious to see what happens when 1.5 gets final and it is then to us the community to come up with good extension, concepts, templates to get the best out of the new tool. With this community backing Joomla I think we will see great things happen.
Actually I started thinking about quitting my day time job and starting a business around Joomla and other OS tools. But then this is another side of the medal ;-)   

This is EXACTLY what my post was about (the one on my site)!

1.0 code has been fiddling for some years now, and it is evident since a long time that some inherited flaws can not be corrected in this codebase, just bettered and maybe worked around.

This is why everybody is SO waiting for 1.5 and the beginning of the new, clean-code area, and everything that'll be brought on from there. And why we all understand the decision to recode, and kind of accept it as it is for the better of everything, but also are SO impatient to finaly GET IT!!
(nice conversation, maybe split the last few posts to General discussions or somewhere..?)

I read some post about ACL for example and what I got from it was that someone with good coding skills would probably be able to take 1.5 and write a component that extends Joomlas ACL by some means. Maybe not a full blown ACL but a start.
I am really impatient as well but not only for 1.5 to go stable (or at least beta) but to see what good developers can achieve when unleashing the whole power of 1.5. I think we will see great things coming.
We should not always look back and argue about what has gone wrong (to a certain extend for learning purpose - ok) but rather look forward and create concepts that use the whole power of the new tool 1.5 :-) I already have some idea spinning around in my head. Now I "just" have to start deepening my php skills and become a great coder ;-)

i dont know nothing about code,or programming ia m just a regular joomla lover
i tried many other cms,and none of them in my experience compared to joomla,welli believe joomla is good enough for the average user like me that just want a nice website,no complication,,,

i jus reading this post get annoyed by people try to critised joomla or the work of these wonderfull people that put hours,days months on joomla for free..not wanting to be rude how about this people look elsewhere, or buy these expenseive cms around
i am trying the 1.5 (even knowing that a lot has to be done..) and i am loving it

one last word  to the dev and the rest of joomla lovers thanks very much you all
