vBulletin 3.08 to vBulletin 3.50 ?

Post by timk99 » Thu Oct 20, 2005 3:45 pm

I currently have a website running Mambo 4.5.3 (I think) with vbulletin 3.08 (using vbridge).

I want to update it to Joomla 1.02 and vbulletin 3.5. How would I best go about this ? I am thinking something like this (obviously tested offline first) :

1. Uninstall vbridge
2. Upgrade vbulletin
3. Upgrade mambo to joomla
4. reinstall vbridge

Or do I not need to bother with stages 1 and 4 ?

I upgraded Joomla 1.0.0 to 1.0.2 and vBulletin 3.0.7 to 3.5.

Yes, you need to uninstall the old vBridge Component.
vBridge for vB 3.5 uses the new vBulletin Plugin/Hook System.

Upgrading to Joomla at the same time is also a good idea - while they are not bridged.
Remember the current version of vBridge is for Joomla 1.0.2, not 1.0.3.
Those are the files in the /upload/ directory.

Also the Login Module is different, so uninstall the old one and install the new one for 3.5.

Make current backups!!!

Upgrade checklist
1. Un-install vBridge Component
2. Un-install vBridge Login Module
3. Upgrade vBulletin to 3.5
4. Upgrade Mambo to Joomla 1.0.2
5. Install vBridge Component 1.1
6. Install vBridge Login Module for vB 3.5

If you get any errors about trying to install the same module again,
manually delete the old module directory.

Overview of Installation Instructions (steps 5 and 6 above)
Note: Instructions for vBridge 1.1 Final, Joomla 1.0.2, and vBulletin 3.5 Gold

1. Un-Zip vBridge distribution file (joomla_vbridge_vb3.5_1.1_final_predator.zip)
2. Activate vBulletin Plugin/Hook System
3. Import Plugin Definitions XML File into vBulletin (vbridge-plugins.xml)
4. Install vBridge Component (com_vbridge.zip)
5. Configure vBridge Component
6. Synchronize Joomla and vBulletin user tables
7. Install vBridge Login Module (mod_vbridge_login_vb35.zip)
8. Publish vBridge Login Module
9. Upload modified Joomla files (from /upload/ directory)

The new installation for 3.5 is actually much easier than for 3.0.8.
