Post by jdg » Mon Aug 29, 2005 8:18 pm

The TSMF, on behalf of its Simpleboard and BadWords2 development teams, has made an official statement in the matter of Miro vs. OMS.

You can read it here: http://www.tsmf.net/content/view/176/43/

In short; very, very short: Yeah OMS, Booh Miro  ;)

Regards,
Jan de Graaff,
Simpleboard Lead Developer & Founder of the TSMF.

Very good news indeed.

I wonder what they (Miro) were thinking...  :-[ It must be somewhat sad to be in their shoes right now.

The "Humor, Fun and Games" forum has  more than 2500 Posts, so why not build a "Humor, Fun and Games Working" Group?

We would just like to thank and acknowledge the support of the Simpleboard & Badwords2 development teams, led by Jan de Graaff.

The success of Mambo and the continued success of OSM is due to the efforts of the Community and 3rd Party Addon Developers.  Without the support of people like Jan and his team this would simply be another OS project in a sea of OS projects.  However together we will continue to create and grow something truly special.

Thank you everybody, upwards and onwards to even greater heights together!

In Greek, we would say: "they put the two Miro's feet in one shoe"!

Thumb up for your decision! I'm looking forward to see your BadWords2 in action.
And we look forward to releasing the beta on the 'NewName' repository!

In the mean time, here's an overview of the featureset to whet your appetite!

On behalf of the Badwords2 development team, I am proud to announce we are nearing a beta release!   Following is an overview of the features and integrations available with Badwords2 Beta 1:

Basic Features
  • Replaces words listed in the admin configurable badwords list with asterisks,
    (i.e. "badword1" becomes "********" in views
  • Case insensitive and finds badwords within strings for thorough filtering/flushing
  • Supports the use of a 'wild card' character (*) in the badwords entries for alternative word form detection
  • Completely NON DESTRUCTIVE; original text remains unchanged in the database
  • Complete administration through Mambo Admin Panel
  • One line of API call to perform badword filtering/flushing for any of your Mambo components
  • Ability to turn Badwords2 filtering/flushing on/off at will
  • Configuration of the language independent badwords list through the admin panel
  • Options to configure regular expressions for advanced filtering/flushing through the admin panel
  • Options to allow special access to users by username through the admin panel

SimpleBoard integration features (SB 1.1.0 Stable *only*)
  • Flushes badwords in ALL views, including RSS and PDF and emails
  • Automatically detects admins and moderators and shows UNFILTERED views
  • Moderator emails show both filtered and unfiltered views
  • Option to filter searches and either show filtered results or deny searching for badwords. Allows for configurable end user denied search message or simply shows 0 result
  • Includes custom "Last 5 Posts" module with filtering/flushing

AkoComment integration features (AkoComment 2.0 *only*) (Edited by RAP)
  • Flushes badwords in commentary entries
  • Automatically detects admins and moderators and shows UNFILTERED views
  • Configurable message support
  • BW2 Integration Tab on AkoComment config to turn filtering on or off

AkoBook integration features (AkoBook 3.4.2 *only*)  (Edited by RAP)
  • Flushes badwords in Guest Book entries
  • Automatically detects admins and moderators and shows UNFILTERED views
  • Responder emails show filtered views
  • Configurable message support
  • BW2 Integration Tab on AkoBook config to turn filtering on or off

CommunityBuilder integration features (CommunityBuilder 1.0 RC1 *only*)
  • Flushes badwords in SimpleBoard forum view tab for subject and username
  • Automatically detects admins and moderators and shows UNFILTERED views
What started as a simple discussion on the TSMF forums has turned into a full fledged component with 4 third party program integrations out of the box!  We hope that other 3PDs will consider integrating Badwords2 into their offerings, and we look forward to your comments and suggestions!

I was thinking the same thing, and I will bring it up to the team.  I don't think it will be part of the beta, but we'll discuss it and I'll give you an update. If you have a running SMF forum installation, you can probably implement it yourself with our instructions; let me know if you're interested and I'll get in touch with you.

All the 'out of the box' integrations are based on altered procedural files of specific versions of the software.  Doing an 'integration' means replacing key PHP files from the base installation with our versions (modified versions of the ORIGINAL base installations).  (BTW, this also means if you've hacked or modified your original files, you'll have to add those hacks or modifcations to our new versions!)

They are meant to demonstrate the concept for applying the flushing technique to any software.  As developing this has been quite time consuming, we are limiting the integrations we officially support to these versions so that we can provide adequate support.

In other words, we are hopeful that once you see how it is done within the examples we're providing, you'll be able to adapt the component or module of your choice and share it with the rest of the community.

Thanx a lot Kaizen for your prompt reply! I'll wait for your beta release for testing on the 'NewName' repository but if I have well understood in your zip file I'll find even an AkoComment 3.42 for overwriting my one ver. 2.0 - is it right?

Oh Geez! I am so sorry, the original announcement has an error!!

It should read AkoComment 2.0 and AkoBook 3.42!!

This is my fault, I am so sorry for the confusion!  I will fix it wherever listed.

Don't worry, a mistake is always possible. I'll wait for your files...

PS. My AkoComment is hard hacked but I'm not able to make working with a PatTemplate system. Anyone out there for collaborating for this?
