I suggest don't change the name of this project more than one letter e.g. MambOS, many people have customers which can be a little panick when they get to know that their CMS stop to grow.
Agree. I also have a site, e-mail addresses and a lot of customers who are allready panicked. Most of them have invested some money in building up Mambo sites, as basement of various businesses. Let keep as much as possible from the original image, as a similar name, etc. !

It contains "Mambo". Miro has a pending trademark on "Mambo" that applies to any web based software program.

Using Mambo in any part of the name is unfortunately (or not, depending on who you talk to) out of the question.

I like:

SINERGIA

but also I love:

QHANA

It is a word in an ancient amerindian language called AYMARA (still spoken) that has two meanings:
RED and WEB, meaning together "ENLIGHTENING THE WEB"

Samba, Swing ( ok that one is taken ), Jive, Cha Cha ( nope! ), Salsa ( not really ).

I vote for Samba since it is the more sophisticated dance after Mambo, and Salsa, you need to know Mambo and Salsa to do Samba!

Swing, Jive would have been cool but over used.

Jazz, Acid Jazz, Big Band, Cabaret, ... I don't know

greate works of Architecutre would have been neat since $ambo has a superior software architecture. Such as Parthenon, Apadana but that might sound too ancient

Spork is funny, could be cool. Tango is cool, too, but why not make the split a split and get away from dances all together? I love mambo -- or at least the old mambo -- but it's time for a fresh start, no?

What about forking from dances and go directly to free-thinking improv music? Something like "jazzed" or "jassCMS" (the word "jazz" started as "jass" as all ya'll jazz buffs know). I've also seen freed proposed goes along the free-thinking route...

My opinions is:
  • Tango is more commonly known than Mambo by people all around the world among different cultures
  • Tango sort of represents that this cms is the rebranded version of original Mambo CMS
  • Tango has been around for a logn time representing that our CMS will have an eternal life ( like UNIX )
  • Tango is about synchronized moves between two partner. In one they make the perfect unit. Other dances are like that too, but Tango has always used as an example of perfect synchronization and partnership.
$ambo Architecture is built upon recognizable patterns ( Components, Modules, Mambots, Templates, ... ) they all form one complete unit.
  • Tango is sexy and has a strong marketing punch into it, we need it for our $ambo application at this point

Again that is just a suggestion. there are many other concepts we could follow. Jazzy ones are great too, or

Drinks: espresso, cappoccino, latte, martini, other coctails
Great Works of Architecture
Oceans: Atlantics, Pacific
or ...

I don't know I am just brain storming

Not meaning to be negative but whatever name gets chosen, hopefully it will be business-like. Anything remotely cutesy sounding makes it harder to convince a client to put his trust in it.

I'd just leave it up to whatever PR/marketing people the dev team selects to choose it.

i personally would stay away from choosing another dance name and go a completely new, not expected direction. something with a new energy.

Actually, coming out with the next release right now would really be a very smart move..

It would create a huge amount of publicity and bring over the last users of mamboserver to this site.  I would really urge the devs to do this ASAP.  The 3rd party guys would also be forced to make the right decision and certify their products for the new version or risk being left behind..

GO FOR IT !  I MAKE THE COFFEE !

Maybe the development isn't ready yet to do such thing. Shouldn't there be beta and rc versions first?

Greetings, I am very sorry if this is a too early question, or in the wrong forum, but I felt the need to ask this question:

Will this new CMS be an update of the previous Mambo (although under a different name) and will people be able to update from it to the new one (allowing people to keep all their code tweaks and work and yet change CMS)?

If my question is not clear enough, I'd be glad to clear it. Thank you in advance for any insight.
