How to insert users' list into Joomla

Post by webapostle » Mon Mar 17, 2008 8:58 am

Guys, out of impatience and lack of exhaustive knowledge about Joomla, I decided to re-install and re-create my site instead of spending hours and hours of internet research to correct my mistake.

Earlier today, I realized that I was able to make a back-up of jos_users database from my previous work.

My question is: how do I import this "precious list" into my new Joomla website. Using phpMyAdmin, what steps should I do? Do I simply import the file (which is saved as rtf) into my Joomla database? Ayoko nang magkamali kasi nakakapagod magsimula sa wala.

By the way, I've previously posted 3 "SOS" in this Filipino forum. Unfortunately, none of them has been replied to. Hopefully, meron nang makakatulong sa kin sa pagkakataong ito.

Regarding phpMyAdmin: I would recommend searching the Internet for some phpMyAdmin tutorial.

I am afraid that jos_users won't be enough to restore the users in your Joomla site.
The users will only appear in the User Manager if all references in the following tables are correct:
jos_users
jos_core_acl_aro
jos_core_acl_groups_aro_map

These are all needed for managing the users... So you have to copy the 2 other tables as well.
Some SQL queries to find the missing info:

Thanks a lot pe7er for the prompt response. Unfortunately, I only have jos_users. I guess that means the table is useless after all.

This is great. It takes a non-Filipino to answer my inquiry which was posted in the Filipino forum. More power to Joomla! community.

You could create jos_core_acl_aro and jos_core_acl_groups_aro_map with the info from the current installation:
E.g. create two new users, both "Registered" users.
Export jos_core_acl_aro and jos_core_acl_groups_aro_map to some spreadsheet.
You could use the info from the two newly created users
to recreate the records for the users that you import to jos_users.

It's difficult, takes some time, but it can be done...

that would be somewhat complicated to work with phpmyadmin if youre not that familiar using mysql commands.

do you have or happen to know any mysql applications like navicat or ems mysql manager(both are not open source apps)? as you mentioned that you dont have the other user mapping tables, so you have to re-create MANUALLY the user maps in your jos_core_acl_aro and jos_core_acl_groups_aro_map.

if it doesnt make sense post back will give you a better explanation with screenshots/visuals.

Lack of 'Members' in the main or top menu is a grave omission. This is what happens when developers neglect the bare essentials and prefer to dabble in gimmicks.

Kunena too doesn't have this provision.

But I am sure that I have read a simple solution long time back. I recall that I have tested it successfully.

Hello friends,

I am going to start my first topic on joomla forum.
I m newbie in joomla,
I want to see from where the record get inserted in db table 'jos_users'.
When user fill the data from the front end.
It will better if someone could tell me how com_user is working?

And where i find the INSERT QUERY ?

Thanks.

ASHOK.
