Opinion: Best method to make site translated?

Post by djcaptpln880 » Wed Nov 08, 2023 2:42 am

Greetings

I am new to Joomla but so far its pretty good -- With J3 I was skeptical but now with J4 much better.

I need opinions:

1. What is the best way to offer fully indexed, search engine translations for an entire site without spending money on extensions etc?

Thanks in advance.

Use the Joomla core.
  • Create a category structure with articles (title, text, intro image) in one language.
  • Copy the categories and set the language.
  • Use Batch to batch copy the articles from a category to the other language category setting that language as language.
  • Copy all menu items to another language menu, associate them with the other language articles and assigning the translated articles.
  • Associate each article with the other language, and then translate title + text.

If you want the best method (which you asked) then: yes.

Alternatively there are some automatic translation plugins available for Joomla:

However, the results of automatic translation vary a lot, so is not the best.

For manual translation I can recommend you Deepl (best translation quality in my opinion). If you have a lot of content, you can also use their API to make it more automated.
Have a great day;)
