New Irish translation

Post by kscanne » Sun Jul 05, 2015 2:19 pm

We have just completed a translation of Joomla! into Irish (ga-IE). The files are available here, for now: http://borel.slu.edu/obair/site_ga-IE.zip

Would it be possible to list this translation on the Joomla! web site and make the files available in the source repository?

Glad to know that the Irish language pack has been created.

Noticed that only the Site language pack has been created. It is recommended that a full language pack including the admin language pack is created.

I believe that you have already seen the document https://docs.joomla.org/Making_a_Langua ... Joomla_3.x.

In addition, the installation ini file has to be created and xml has to be created for the language.

Hi Kscanne - I would love to use those Irish files for a site I am working on at the moment (the link referenced is not currently working). Would it be possible to repost a live link to them.

Go raibh maith agat...

Sorry about that - I just put the file back. I'd love to know how you get on with the translation, we haven't had anyone use them in a production system. Maybe drop me an email? I'm kscanne on gmail.

Kevin, a chara,

Thank you very much for your contribution.

We were struggling with the lack of volunteers for this big task
http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f ... 0#p3119724

I known that you have been very active in GA localisation for Open Source software, I want to extend a big thank you from the Joomla Community.

Do you agree to release this under a GPL license? I will have links, credits and agreement for you if yes.

Then, after a few checks, I would like to add this language pack to the official Joomla language, and putting in place some tools to maintain it, like Transifex/OpenTranslators. Do you have any suggestion on this?

At Hervé:

It can't be anything else than GPL.
Please contact Mig (http://forum.joomla.org/memberlist.php? ... e&u=224484) as this "site-only" pack is not suitable for Joomla! Registered packs.

Hi JM,

Happy to still see you around sometimes ;-)
I will contact Mig, and add at least a partial admin pack.

Thanks for the insight!

Hi Hervé, I'm very happy with the GPL for the translations.

As far as maintaining the translations going forward, we're using Google Translator Toolkit, which is what we used for the Gmail translation. I have script that I can use to round-trip from the Joomla files to GTT.

Hi Kevin,

Thank you very much for your contribution! I'm glad that you and your colleagues intend to "maintain the translations going forward" !

I've just sent you an email regarding Team work, and I will work over the week-end to handle some technical stuff.

Kind regards,
Hervé

Hi,

It's been a busy week-end, and thanks to Kevin, we have more translated files, including the installation ones!

The team and the Irish language pack is now waiting approval from the Joomla Translations Working Group.
https://docs.joomla.org/Translations_Working_Group

We have also setup a GitHub repository, with the pre-releases files
https://github.com/joomla-irish/language_pack

Please feel free to ask more details, and to join us!

@rvbgnu

Beware of the version you use in the package.xml
Should be 3.4.5.1, NOT 3.4.5v1

3.4.5v1 is for the name of the full pack zip

Look here: https://docs.joomla.org/J3.x:Making_a_L ... for_Joomla

Concerning the installation xml
```
<name>Irish (Ireland)/name>
<version>3.4.5v1</version> // Should just be 3.4.5
<creationDate>2015-11-08</creationDate>
<author>Irish translation team</author>
<authorEmail>[email protected]</authorEmail> // Take off
<authorUrl>http://borel.slu.edu/</authorUrl> // Take off
```

When contacting Mig to set up the Team, also give him the Irish flag image called ga_ie.gif

Thank you Jean-Marie!

So helpful and prompt to give useful feedback!

I have now updated the repository, and created new packages .zip accordingly, and added the flag (and more sources that I had already). Moving forward, finally!! Mig contacted also.

The flag I posted is the only one needed and it has to be committed to core in
https://github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/tr ... ges/images
We do not need any other there as it is a new pack.

Great, we will use the one you suggested.
I supposed the Translation Working Group will deal with the PR, once the language is accredited, or should I do one?

I put the other flags as other resources, as they were provided these last few years by irish contributors, to customise multilingual websites.

Thanks for your insights.
