Thanks for your interest in contributing to Joomla!

As you may have observed, the current Greek language pack available for Joomla is v3.6.3 (http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/jtrans ... ge_id=6419).

Joomla! 3.6.4 being a security release, there are no changes to language strings between Joomla! 3.6.3 and Joomla! 3.6.4.

Between Joomla! 3.6.4 and Joomla! 3.6.5, there is only one language string that has been added. Of course, this would be the only language string that should be missing in the Greek language pack v3.6.3.

Can you please elaborate on what you mean by "re-translate to Greek"?

Are you interested in contributing to Greek translation? This question is for future reference.

Understood... As you may know, all the works of Joomla! including the language packs creation are done by volunteers such as you and I. So, if there is a room for improvement we will works towards that.

You did not answer my question.

The reason for the question is that we have come across so many users who would like to throw their hat in the ring and vanish after that.

If you feel that the Greek language pack could be improved and you have time to dedicate, suggest the following:
  • Get registered at crowdin.com
  • Get in touch with Rune Rasmussen (rued - memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=5511) who is one of the managers who maintain the Joomla! Project translations in crowdin and request the following:
    • Add you to the Joomla-CMS Project in Crowdin
    • Upload the current Greek language pack (found in http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/jtrans ... ge_id=6419), installation ini & xml files to Crowdin
    • Create/Upload the Date Picker file to Crowdin
    • Make you a translator for the Greek language
This would be a good starting point...

Appreciate the initiative taken. While waiting for the reply from Nicholas, can you please take of the following things as we are preparing Joomla! 3.7 release?

(a) Date Picker File

Translate the following file (el.js) attached? This file is used in the date picker that is used in Joomla! 3.7. Translate the language strings (but for the ones mentioned below) that are enclosed after the colon sign.

Language strings not to be translated:
dateType : "gregorian",
minYear : 1900,
maxYear : 2100,

(b) Installation ini & xml files

Attached are the latest installation ini (el-GR.ini) & xml (el-GR.xml) files for the Greek language. The difference in the files are documented in the pdf file attached.

For the xml, we have not only to correct the version, but also ADD a new metadata
Here is an example for French.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<metafile
version="3.7" // Change from 3.6. to 3.7 (was forgotten in core and diff, will be corrected
client="installation">
<name>French (Fr)</name>
<version>3.7.0</version> // Change version to 3.7.0
<creationDate>January 2017</creationDate>
<author>Joomla.fr</author>
<copyright>Copyright (C) 2005 - 2017 Open Source Matters. All rights reserved.</copyright> // change to 2017
<license>GNU General Public License version 2 or later; see LICENSE.txt</license>
<files>
<filename>fr-FR.ini</filename>
</files>
<metadata>
<name>Français (France)</name>
<nativeName>Français (France)</nativeName> // !important this is a new metadata, add here the native name of your language in your alphabet, for example it will be for Greek <nativeName>ελληνικά (Greece)</nativeName>
<tag>fr-FR</tag>
<rtl>0</rtl>
</metadata>
<params />
</metafile>
(c) TinyMCE Language File

Be known that Transifex is the official translation platform for TinyMCE. I noticed some untranslated strings in TinyMCE. Please register with Transifex (https://www.transifex.com/projects/p/tinymce/) and request to add you as a translator for the Greek language. Once you become the translator, kindly translate the three language strings that are spread across two different resources namely plugin-media and plugin-anchor. After this request the coordinator to review and approve the translations.

Once this is done, you can download the TinyMCE language file for the language Greek (el.js) from the site https://www.tinymce.com/download/language-packages/.

Attach the files in the reply. I know that there would be two files named el.js. What I would recommend is to create one reply for each of the points mentioned above.

Thanks for attaching the date picker file. It is a good start. Reviewed the file and noticed the following:

Code: Select all

	shortMonths : ["Ιαν", "Feb", "Mar", "Apr", "May", "Jun", "Jul", "Aug", "Sep", "Oct", "Nov", "Dec"],
I believe that except for the month of Jan[uary] all other months have not been translated. Kindly look into this.
