J4 common words file in Crowdin

Post by dyfrig » Thu Jul 15, 2021 8:57 am

There is a new file in Joomla 4 called com_finder.commonwords.txt. Crowdin has been set up to translate this on a 1-1 basis. I would think that this isn't suitable for any language as there isn't 1-1 correspondence between words in different languages. For example in Welsh there is only one word for "Our" and "Ours" but 2 different words for "Yours".

I've mentioned this to Wilco but he says that he's simply following production.

What are other people doing? What is the best way of trying to get this sorted?

Wilco is mistaken. The purpose of the file is to list common words in the language that can be set to be excluded from the search indexes. So obviously a 1-1 translation is incorrect as even when translated it may not be a common word

Wilco has now changed this so that the list is one block with newlines separating each word. This is what was needed. He is also going to change the localise.php file so that the plurals code is one block. This will make it easier for new translators for languages with multiple plural forms.
